Description

A Columbia Masterworks re-creation of the original 1944 Broadway musical, produced for stereo records by Goddard Lieberson, notes by Stanley Green. This performance was arranged and conducted by the composer, Leonard Bernstein, with members of the original cast, including Cris Alexander and Nancy Walker and lyricists Betty Comden and Adolph Green.After Oklahoma! the wartime ‘On The Town’ pointed the way to the many later urban musicals: ‘Wonderful Town’, ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘Bells Are Ringing’, ‘West Side Story’.The vinyl lp was an American import, I am the only owner, played it just once using a balanced SME tone arm and Shure cartridge with diamond needle, in order to transfer the album to reel tape, and I have stored it carefully in its original cellophane wrap.
