The 8th Blue Öyster Cult's 1981 album "Fire of Unknown Origin" contains the Top 40 hit "Burnin' for You" (#1 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart). For this work they once again brought together their successful writing team around Patti Smith and the dark fantasy author Michael Moorcock. The track “Veteran of Psychic Wars” is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the band’s best works, not least because of its length and song structure.

»Fire of Unknown Origin« was the last studio album with the original line-up after a break of seven years. In many ways it represents the end of an era and Blue Öyster Cult struggled to find traction with critics and radio over the next few years. Despite everything, this album is and remains an incredible masterpiece of the golden era.
