MEGA RARE ...Top of the heap sought ACID ARCHIVES 1972 PRIVATE PRESS (((ORIGINAL))) of the MONSTER heavy fuzz-psych holy grail collectible ...

Mystic Siva’s only album, released in 1972, is one of the highest rated of collector’s holy grail albums within the psych garage scene. This Detroit band had a great name that matched their spooky, minimalist sound, and the lack of information on the band itself added to their mystique.

MYSTIC SIVA formed in 1967, were in their early teens- not old enough to drive to shows, let alone play clubs, and only got round to recording this in 1972. They recorded their sound through a single channel due to faulty studio equipment, hence the primitive sound, but that kind of added to the weird psychedelic vibe that mellows with age.

The track ‘Eyes Have Seen Me’ is a mix of minimalist fuzzed-up guitar groove with hallucinatory lyrics, swirling organs and captivating vocals containing a definite Jim Morrison stylized sound -- you can feel the ongoing led by gushy organ & wild guitar riffs working in it’s own acidic way - the epitome of the underground garage freakbeat sound.
There are certain types of underground rock that are highly desirable, more for their mood and atmosphere, verse actual songwriting and talent. The “lost teenager angst” sound is one of the most sought after in this category, as it provides an historic panorama of a certain time and place. Michigan’s Mystic Siva is the Holy Grail for such a sound. Musically, it’s a typical album for the time, not mature enough to be signed by a major label, and the production values are pure garage. The realism of this album just oozes from the grooves, a miasma of doom and gloom. Yep, the girlfriend just left and that dead end union job at the auto plant is starting to look like a very real place for a very real long time. Throw in some high school mysticism, and you have a world class recording from the vaults of America’s "fly over country”. It is rare to capture that mood, that hopelessness, that despair. Mystic Siva did all of this and more....
The album was recorded in one day, in 1970, at V.O. Studios by the band, consisting of Dave Mascarin on drums and lead vocals, chief songwriter and creator the album’s distinct cover artwork;   Al Tozzi on guitar, who co-wrote five of the eleven tracks with Mascarin; Marc Heckert on Hammond B-3 organ and vocals; and Art Thienel on bass and vocals.
The needle drops on the opening track “Keeper of the Keys” and the listener is greeted by Al Tozzi’s gently wafting guitar and Marc Heckert’s gushing Hammond B-3 organ.  However, it isn’t long before Tozzi stomps on his wah wah pedal, and takes off on the album’s first of many memorable "killer" solos.  This track brings to mind fellow Michigan rockers, SRC, with Heckert’s organ and Tozzi’s guitar reminiscent of SRC at their best.  This similarity in sound is no accident as Mystic Siva performed SRC’s classic “Black Sheep” regularly in concert.
Marc Heckert’s organ intro to “And When You Go” visions of sitting in a large Cathedral filling my mind before Tozzi’s jangling guitar joins in.  Mascarin’s tripped out, deeply echoed, Jim Morrison-like vocals, are about as close to the Lizard King as we've heard without being forced or contrived.  At the three minute mark  of the track, Tozzi’s slide guitar changes the song’s texture, but just as quickly he steps back and Dave’s vocals return to the fore.
Tozzi’s guitar finds a groove on “Eyes Have Seen Me” while Heckert’s B-3 fills your mind.  The songs driving beat is complemented by Tozzi’s restrained lead guitar and the sound is tight as Mascarin and Thienel have the bottom end locked down tight as always.  The song has a beautiful, breezy feel, evidence of the band’s versatility. Evidence of Tozzi’s personal versatility is found on “Come On Closer,” this time featuring a sizzling style lead line and solo which climbs just above Heckert’s Hammond swirls.  The call and response vocals of Mascarin and company work very well.  Tozzi keeps his guitar restrained throughout the tune, before putting the pedal to the metal, dashing shards of guitar-power to the finish.
Sunshine Is Too Long” is a mid-tempo rocker, with Tozzi’s wah wah and Mascarin’s percussion pushing the beat.  Much funkier than the previous songs, it is Al’s Hendrix (“Voodoo Chile”) influenced guitar that carries this track, with his fuzzed out solo featured.  But the funky feel of the band’s effort on this one is not to be underestimated.  Special recognition is due bassist Art Thienel and drummer Mascarin who formed a rock solid rhythm section as evidenced here.
Heckert’s B-3 organ swirls throughout the intro to “Spinning A Spell.”  Tozzi enters gently, but halfway through the track he again puts his wah wah pedal to the extreme, his guitar soaring higher and higher before returning to the song’s gentle groove.
Side two opens with Heckert’s ever present Hammond organ and dissonant guitar by Tozzi introducing “Supernatural Mind.”  Mascarin’s insistent drums break in but Tozzi’s guitar drives the band as he turns up the fuzz for a full minute and a half solo.  Mascarin sings “I’m like a devil in disguise with my supernatural mind” and “I’ll keep you in a trance there’s nothing you can do,” typical of the trippy lyrics throughout the album.
Find Out Why” begins with a gentle guitar and organ intro and is the most delicate track to be found here.  It would be right at home on either of SRC’s first two albums with lyrics like “when I look at the sky it seems to turn away and hide” and “as I’m walking the birds seem to come down and talk to me, people don’t seem to be reality.”  But Dave’s plaintive “I have to find out why?” puts it all in perspective.
Magic Luv” opens with a groove with Al’s guitar and Marc’s organ that lead the listener to and fro with their driving R&B beat.  Tozzi’s guitar is restrained, but firmly in control, while Heckert’s Hammond rhythmically enters and exits the soundscape.
Mystic Siva’s Michigan roots are quite apparent on “Touch The Sky,” another track that would be right at home on an album by SRC as Heckert’s organ and Tozzi’s guitar again resemble the Quackenbush brothers.  Tozzi holds back to the one minute mark, then rips through a solo running a full two minutes, never sounding forced or overplayed.
The gorgeous “In A Room” again features magnificent organ work by Heckert, and with all the tracks on “Mystic Siva” it is very original.  Tozzi’s solo on this track would have made Erik Braun of Iron Butterfly proud, his wailing guitar driving the song.  Vocals imitating air raid sirens add to the trippy mood, and Al’s wah wah fueled guitar guides the song and the album to a close, eleven tracks, a whopping 46 minutes and 24 seconds after its beginning.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: solid VG++ perhaps closer to "EX" the triple thick gatefold has no more than a 'touch' of wear that is less than noticeable. Bit of off color (fade?) on edges, again not very noticeable, but there if inspecting. The seams are extremely strong, the structure is 100% flat & square with 4 sharp corners. This copy, while, 1972 first pressing has been professionally laminated (no seams are visual on front or back cover.) The lamination technique is nothing short of amazing. Overall the cover looks as nice as the photo here appears....there are NO delete marks, no bends, no writing and no split seams

The vinyl: rated anywhere from (most all) strong VG+ to a minimum couple of spots at VG(+), but plays mostly with M- excellent audio the pressing is notoriously lo-fi and subject to audio imperfections. There are a few random visual soft hair scuffs and a couple needle marks (one very short) that cause ticks; the other visual mark at 4th track side one. Overall play grade revealed mostly very strong M- audio save for once in a while the odd tick (pressing) but overall highly enjoyable clean audio...

Please note (see photo #4) as a result of the primitive (thick) pressing, copies are known to have rough outside edges of the platter, this copy the same  - which is minor as absolutely nowhere  near the actual grooves rather the outside edge of the disc ...and tracks perfectly

The V.O. labels are clean with faint traces of spindle marks on side one, hardly any spindle marks visual on side two label ...
