Description
I'm not really into records but will pick them up when they look obscure and when I believe they would be of interest to the collector. I reside in Miami, Florida and attend estate sales and haunt thrift stores in search of these obscure records. Well, the following 2 up for bids would certainly qualify as OBSCURE, esp THE NITE RIDERS a black "soul" group that probably walked into a studio and paid to record the 2 soulful cuts --without even putting a name or a number on the 45. But when I played the "A" side "Kathy" I was knocked for a loop--pleasantly surprised to find this sweet sweet soul number so well done! A great sweet soulful vocal with backup harmony (I even like it as much as the great sweet soul tune of NOBODY'S CHILDREN "Wish I Had A Girl" on the other obscure mid- 1970s 45 by Toeholt Records (Produced by Chet Davenport). Here are the details: (1): NOBODY'S CHILDREN "Wish I Had A Girl" / "Shardarp". Toeholt Records 14810 (1976). "Wish I Had A Girl" is a sweet slow-tempo soul tune well done! "Shardarp" is a killer uptempo funky soul dancer tune. CONDITION: "A" side is shiny, has one inch feelable scratch and visually grades near VG+ (if it wasn't for the scratch, it would grade VG+ or better) "B" side has a few light marks (no feelable scratches) and is shiny also & grades a solid VG+ and plays fine (2): THE NITE RIDERS "Kathy" / "Sweet And Hot". (arr. Frank Capella Jr, E. boykins Jr.). No date, but presumed 1960s maybe 1970s. This one is steeped to TOTAL OBSCURITY. Don't know anything about this Black soul group or whether they ever ever cut another record. But "A" side "Kathy" is a great mod sweet soul tune with wonderful backup harmony. "B" side "Sweet And Hot" is a typical uptempo soul tune & nothing out of the usual, except maybe the racy lyrics: "I Don't need a woman who lives too fast...I don't need a woman who shows her ass, I'm looking for a woman with a whole lot of soul ..All I want is a woman but shes got to be sweet & hot" etc. CONDITION: this record--altho shiny has numerous small marks on the "A" side and I would visually grade VG but plays with surface noise so I would play grade it VG MINUS; the "B" side plays better (uptempo lessens surface noise)and visually grades & plays VG. Light "Ms Dee" in pencil on label. But considering this is probably the only one in existence, the record is quite playable with No skips or loud pops. (if anyone has ever heard of this group and can provide additional info, e-mail me and I will add it to my description). There you have them! TWO great obscure SOUL 45s for the serious SOUL collector. Have no idea of their value so I will start the bidding at $5.99 with no reserve and let YOU be the judge of it final worth. Winning US bidder to pay $4 for Media Mail delivery. International bidders to pay $14 for Priority Flate Rate Box. PayPal only (payPal payment required within 3 days after auctions end..if you cannot pay within 3 days, please do not bid..thanks..).
On Apr-11-09 at 07:57:57 PDT, seller added the following information:*****PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING**** I've had a few requests to listen to these 45s. I've never done it before (I don't specialize in records) and my record player is a cheap inexpensive one (without stereo) so the sound quality is going to be compromised, but if you still want to listen, I will accomodate (even tho i've been laid up with a bad cold) because of the Obscurity of these 45s. At least you'll get a chance to decide if they are worth bidding on. I reside in Miami, Florida (EST) and will take calls this afternoon between 12:30 PM (EST) to 5 pm (EST). If interested, please ,e-mail me now and let me know the exact time you will call (please adjust for time zones) and which 45s you would like to listen to and I will send a confirmation e-mail. (I might be away from my computer so it is important that you wait for the confirmation e-mail before calling). I only have dial-up (with no separate lines) so I will have to exit the computer in order to receive your call. So please call at the confirmed time. Thanks, Al
