2 OLD 78 rpm CHARLIE POOLE COUNTRY STRING BAND RECORDS
TWO c1920s String-Band Country records by
CHARLIE POOLE
AND THE NORTH CAROLINA RAMBLERS
--The first COLUMBIA record is:
-15138-D (142637)Good-bye Booze
-(142646) Budded Rose
--The second record is COLUMBIA:
-15286-D (146773)Ramblin' Blues
-15286-D (146779)Shootin' Creek
OVERALL CONDITION:
There are two sizable EDGE-CHIPS on the 15138 record, but neither intrude into the playing grooves. More importantly there are 3 small EDGE-CRACKS on the edge of the record, one of which intrudes about 1/4" into the playing grooves. These cracks have not yet weakened the record in any further way. There are NO edge-chips or cracks on the 15286 record. There is some GREYING on both records. Numerous SCRATCHES & MARKS on both records.
The labels are in pretty good condition, except for the "Shootin' Creek" side of 15286 which has some of the gold-lettering worn off and some small scrapes around the center hole of both sides (see scan below).
PLAYING ON MY PLAYER:
All 4 sides have the usual snaps, crackles & pops. They all also have constant background noise throughout the recording. The music still comes through pretty well. Both records have just a few places where the needle "clicks" at a scratch, but there don't appear to be any skips or stuck needle areas.
These are two early Country String Band records on COLUMBIA labels in still "playable" condition.
