(2)Tony Schwartz NEW YORK Streets LPs

New York 19 conceived, edited & narrated by Tony Schwartz FOLKWAYS FD 5558 (FP 58) 1954
vinyl- VG+     cover- VG- to VG (two inch seam split bott. ctr.)

Music in the Streets a fascinating collection of music and musicians recorded on the streets of New York City FOLKWAYS FD 5581
vinyl- VG+     cover- VG- (seam split half way across bottom) 1955?

this voluble gent apparently went around the streets of NYC in the mid-fifties recording folks...New York 19 is mid-Manhattan according to him.  Folkways then packaged it as 'essential urban voice' or something to that effect.  Ingenious!

Kinda like espresso coffee.

Some brilliant fellow back at the dawn of time kept ending up with just a little nasty stuff in the bottom of the pot...kinda like oil after a few days; with the appealing consistency of crankcase drippings.  But coffee's expensive.  Why throw it out he reasoned.  So he started aging the stuff (two weeks or so in a mason jar fermented it properly) and subsequently served it up in thimbles for 2 bucks a throw (he called the thimbles demi-tasse cups to impress the easily impressed).  The dude's now a bigwig in Fiji, I hear.
