Description

Columbia 78 rpm, #15274-D.  "Present Joys" and " Rocky Road", performed by the Alabama Sacred Harp Singers.  Recorded April 16, 1928, in Atlanta.  The group was led by legendary singers and tunewriters Marcus Cagle and Paine Denson, also "Uncle Dock" Owen.  Marcus Cagle wrote "Present Joys" in 1908, and it was added to the Sacred Harp tunebook  in the 1911 revision.  Paine Denson was the principal reviser of the 1936 "Original Sacred Harp."
Sprightly singing from some of the most prominent Sacred Harp vocalists of the period.  And possibly the only instance of a 1920's commercial Sacred Harp Recording in which a tunewriter sings his own composition, a fuguing tune.
V+ or a hair better.  Still shiny.
