Description

Absolutely amazing Kurdish 78! This is a 10,5" Polyphon, pressed 1928 (actual recording date can be discerned from the catalog numbers if you have info on the Polyphon catalog. This one is V41090 on Arabic Polyphon). Almas Al Kurdi, a fantastic female performer executes a Kholeylo in two parts. This is Kurdish music straight from the fields! The disc is VG. Starts a bit noisy on the first half-minute but as you can here the noise drops down and the rest plays good. Some scuffs but no troubling scratches. Rare as hen's teeth. Offered at an insanely low starting price.

GRADING CHART for 78RPM records )

M: We only use Mint rating if we are sure that the item has never been played or if the item has absolutely no sign of flaw or previous useage.

M-: Disc looks and plays as if it hasn’t been used before. Only a very slightest flaw detected under sheer light might be evident but disc should play as new and grooves should shine with no sign of former needle-touch.

EX: Disc has healthy and moderately shiny grooves and plays with good fidelity. Surface may bear a few very light and neglectable thin scuffs that would not disturb listening in any way.

VG+: Disc has reasonably healthy grooves which have only moderately lost shine. More than a few thin scuffs and a few major scuffs may be available but the disc plays nice enough to enjoy with low surface noise and absolutely no skipping or serious clicking. No deep scratches (i.e.: scratches felt by the tip of a finger which cause skipping) should be seen.

VG: Disc is overall in much-used looking shape with slightly worn and unshiny grooves. There is moderate or more surface noise with little pops and clicks but no skipping. Many minor scuffs and several major scuffs may be apparent but a disc of this rating will be much enough for a good “keeper” copy.

G: Disc has seriously worn grooves with many scuffs and scratches which are not healthy for many repeated listens and plays with serious surface noise. Visibly quite worn but stil playable.

Notes: a) Aficionados of shellac records will know that compared with vinyl discs, 78’s have been manufactured on very different material and they feature a very different frequency and fidelity range with a different texture of music feedback. The disc may look like a VG copy but may very well plays as great as an EX copy if the grooves have not been mistouched with worn needles so aural gradings are very important for these discs. b) Extra (+) or (-) signs are there to relatively indicate precision over the main grading to be more accurate.
