Description

An probably unique 12" acetate containing rough mixes, producer slating (introductions before each take) and at least one unreleased version of a song from Aretha Franklin's 1962 album The Tender, The Moving, The Swinging Aretha Franklin.  The acetate sleeve has the name of the album's producer and arranger, Robert Mersey, written in the top right corner, indicating this was his acetate, as well as the Columbia Records master numbers of each take.  This was almost certainly used by Mersey to choose takes for inclusion on the album.

Each side has three tracks as follows:
Side 1
: "I'm Wandering" (producer says at beginning "Take six")/"I Don't Owe You Anything" (producer says at beginning "This will be take 8.  1-2-3-4")/"How Deep Is The Ocean" (producer says "CO 70120 Take 9.  1-2-3-4")
Side 2: "Look For The Silver" (producer says "Alright this is take 2"/ this is an aborted attempt at cutting this track, marked with yellow grease pencil on disc, but it still plays)/ "Look For The Silver" (As before, full version with producer introduction)/ "Look For The Silver" (Aretha vocalizes before beginning, then producer says "Alright this is take 3").

The playing surface of the acetate is EX and plays very well; there are various superficial marks to the area inside the grooves and one small chip near the center hole, far from the grooved area.

Robert Mersey was a staff producer and arranger for Columbia Records; in addition to producing Aretha, he worked with Leiber & Stoller, Barbra Streisand, Dion, Johnny Mathis and many others.

A truly museum quality Aretha Franklin collectible from very early in her career.

We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren't happy with no questions asked.

Unlike some eBay sellers, we don't feel the need to hype records by including long reviews or albums, quoting lyrics, making up arcane variations. We just grade accurately, describe any flaw, and sell only high quality rare records in fine condition.
