Albert Ayler on ESP 1002
This is the rare early “P”-pressing of Albert Ayler “Spiritual Unity” on ESP 1002. The playing surface has a high luster and shows no groove wear; however, there are two inaudible scuffs/handling marks on Side A and six inaudible scuffs/handling marks/hairlines on Side B. (It’s strange for grooves that look so pristine have these surface marks.) The silk-screened cover appears to be unique: two colors – red and maroon – on the front and back artwork, as if the printer was experimenting with various color combinations; the seams have been protected with clean tape, since there are no detectable splits or wear, other than ½” at the opening of the top and bottom seams. Personnel include Gary Peacock and Sonny Murray.
