 The Hazards of Love

Rare is an overused word in many ebay listings. Here’s a 1964 E.P which deserves that adjective for sure.

This EP was famous enough to get a “Record Day”  50th anniversary reissue in 2014 and Topic took the trouble to include the insert too. That was available as “STOP 2014”

Having said that I believe it was recorded in 1963 and release the following year.

Thanks to the Folk & Roots Music Website which has a comprehensive write up on this record:-

It’s in remarkable condition for a 52 year old disc especially as there is no inner sleeve as seen with some EPs. The label is “sand” colour with black printing. I’m not sure if that predates the familiar dark blue with silver printing which I see on Topic LP.s (Such as my copy of “Steam Whistle Ballads” from 1964)

There is no mention on the sleeve as to where this was recorded.  On line I can see a reference to “Olympic Studios London Recorded by Bill Leader”.

Remarkable that he is still around and busy digitizing his back catalogue. I hope that includes his Pyewackett album from 1981 (Dingle’s Record Ltd DIN 312.) Hurry up Bill!

CONDITION.

 Sleeve

The sleeve is in excellent condition*. No fading, discolouration biro or dedications.

I’ve added photographs of the front and back in this listing. It’s a fold back sleeve with the front laminated.

 Insert

 This is in excellent condition

  Vinyl

The record is in excellent condition*.  There is the occasional isolated click on the first track. There is minor background noise but nothing to detract from this strong solo performance. You’d know it was vinyl.

It’s quite a loud recording in mono as you may expect.

Good News Everyone! You can check out the quality on the attached eCommerce Player. (In fact my request/demand is that you listen before placing any bid. You know it makes sense.)

(This disc recorded on my Rega 3 turntable using “Audacity”, exported as a 320  kbps MP3 file and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever just a pause as I turned the disc over. It's all there from the moment the stylus touches down, finds the groove, plays the side and runs off)

Thanks for looking over this item. I've done my best to highlight any deficiencies and again request that you have a listen before placing a bid.

Apologies for any “typos” and my Cavalier use of upper and lower case text. Add to that the font size which has taken on a life of its own.

This auction will run for the full time so please don’t ask for a buy it now

I am sure you will be satisfied with your copy of “The Hazards of Love”, but should there be any issues with incorrect listing or quality, please contact me via e-mail before leaving negative feedback. If you still feel the description to be misleading, I will be happy to organise a refund, not including postage and packing, on its safe return to me.

Record will be send using a cut down “Music Omax” cruciform mailer with a cardboard stiffener included. Definitely an improvement on the 7 inch envelope type mailer gathering dust on my shelf.

The packet weights 113 grams before sealing with tape.

Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
