Description

Record Description

Anne Shelton was Britain's sweetheart of the airwaves during the Second World War, broadcasting to troops alongside Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby. Her 1956 recording of 'Lay Down Your Arms' became a UK number one hit, cementing her status as one of the most beloved British vocalists of the post-war era. Format: 78 RPM / Shellac / 10"
Label: Philips P.B.616 — classic blue/silver label with shield logo
Recording: Electric (1956)
Country: United Kingdom (Made in England)
Pressing: UK Philips pressing — era confirmed by blue label design and P.B. catalogue prefix. Matrix numbers AA 26239 1H and AA 26239 2H visible, indicating early takes. Pressing generation not confirmed as original without comparative matrix data.

Side A: Lay Down Your Arms (Leon Land-Ake Gerhard / Paddy Roberts)
Side B: Daydreams (Hoffman-Manning)

Surface Grade: VG+
Label Grade: Excellent — both labels clean with full gloss, no wear or writing

Condition Notes: Playing surfaces display excellent sheen with only light surface marks consistent with careful play. No chips, cracks, or pressing defects visible. Edge intact around full circumference. Labels remain bright and fully legible with no peeling or staining. A clean example of this UK chart-topper featuring Wally Stott's lush orchestral arrangements.
