The chance of a lifetime: This is a magnificent Charlie Parker 10 inch signed by Bird that I have had in my collection for years. I think this is the finest Charlie Parker album ever on eBay, and I have been following eBay since its inception. Charlie autographed his 10-inch boldly in vintage brown fountain pen ink, which was popular back in the day. The autograph has weathered well.
The album is a 10-inch Mercury Records (MGC-501), produced by Norman Granz, and titled, "Charlie Parker with Strings". The front of the album cover is in very good shape; the rear of the album cover has ring wear. There are no seam splits. The record inside looks like it was well used. Musical info: “Six takes from a November 30, 1949 session comprises this album Charlie Parker With Strings including "Just Friends", "April in Paris" and "Summertime". These are among the few recordings Charlie Parker made during a brief period when he was able to control his heroin habit, and his sobriety and clarity of mind are evident in his playing. Although using classical music instrumentation with jazz musicians was not entirely new, this was the first major work where a composer of bebop was matched with a string orchestra."

I have collected jazz since the late 1960s when my Dad first took me to clubs like Condon’s and Jimmy Ryan’s as a kid in New York. This is an iconic and incredibly rare autograph of arguably the most important and influential saxophonist in jazz history. Being that Charlie Parker stated that of his own records, Charlie Parker with Strings was his favorite, I don’t think you could ask for a better keepsake of Bird’s. Better even than a handbill, flyer, poster or jazz program, this autographed album would look stunning framed in an unadorned alcove in your home or office.
