This auction is for a very rare pressing of the Beatles debut US Capitol LP ‘Meet The Beatles’.
This is the incredibly rare Variation 1 STEREO pressing that omits both the BMI and ASCAP publishing credits on the label! Not only that, but this is a truly beautiful NM example of this mega rarity!!!
Considered to be one of the big holy grails of Beatles collecting, the Variation 1 stereo copies of Meet The Beatles were the initial, very early presses of the album. Back in 1964 as Capitol were preparing the album they initially did not know the publisher credits for any of the songs. Rather than waste time holding back production to find this information out they hastily prepared labels that did not have this information on and sent them off for the initial production run. After this tiny initial run the labels were amended to show the BMI and ASCAP publisher credits and production continued as normal. These ‘variation 1’ presses are the very earliest copies to come off of the production line back in 1964 and were the first to be put out on the shelves on release day. These initial run copies were subjected to the very height of Beatlemania and the vast majority of copies were completely trashed by fans by playing them over and over again, or being careless and knocking into record players when dancing and the like, before being unceremoniously thrown away when it could no longer be played.
What truly makes this LP special however is that this is the mega rare stereo pressing. Back in 1964 the mono format was by far the most popular seller out of the two and, up until 1966, stereo copies amounted to just 15% of the overall amount manufactured by Capitol. It’s thought that only about a dozen or so copies of the Stereo Variation 1 presses of Meet The Beatles survive today (fab4collectibles.com estimate at around just 12 copies) and most of these are most likely in a pretty poor condition. This has got to be one of the nicest copies out there. You just never see them in this incredible condition!
An incredible opportunity to pick up what could well be considered as a ‘final upgrade’ copy of this impossible to find Beatles LP!
I also have the very rare mono variation 1 pressing currently on eBay, too!

The cover is looking incredible for its age - the fact that this album has survived at all let alone be in this onderful condition is amazing! The fgront cover is clean with a nice, rich blue hue and just a very light hint of disc impression. There's a few light brown spots in the top left corner as I've highlighted in a close up photo above. The edges are clean and sharp and the corners are still looking pretty shart. The top left corner has a small crease though. Top and bottom seams are holding perfectly with no wear or splitting of any kind! The spine has browned everso slightly with a touch of wear at the top but, overall, the spine is looking awesome with minimal wear and no splitting at all! The back cover is still wonderfully pale with judt a touch of light browning around the edges and a very light disc impression at the bopt and bottom. There's no George Martin credit at the bottom left and the number 3 is in the bottom right indicating a Scranton, Pennslvania press - exactly right for this V1 stereo disc! Overall, very nice sleeve!! Inner Sleeve: EX+

The original blue inner sleeve is included. The inner is looking really nice and is predominantly flat bar a crease in the lower corner as you can see in the photos above. The opening is sharp with no wear or tearing, and all seams are holding wonderfully with no tears or splits. Very nice inner sleeve! Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : EX+

The playing surface has a beautiful, crisp shine to it and just has some light, faint scuffing with nothing heavier that I can see. Beautiful vinyl!!

The labels are stellar! They look near perfect with just one or two very light, faint little spindle marks that I can only just about see and zero whitening around the centrehole. Absolutely beautiful!!
