After 20 years of collecting, the time has come for me to sell my Beatles collection and let other collectors appreciate some of the records and memorabilia I've accumilated over the years. This particular pressing is what's known in the collecting world as a 'Loud Cut' pressing, identified by the matrix number endings of -1/-1. Those with a good ear have said that these initial presses have an unbalanced mix with harsher, sharper vocals (making them sound aggressive) and a muddier bass. It was soon decided to stop production so that the album could be remixed and new mother plates made up. These standard presses, with the matrix endings -4/-4, are the most common presses out there.

Quite uncommon to find, and this copy would make a perfect collection filler.

The cover is holding up okay, but is showing its age. The front cover is clean with a good colour and has some laminate creases around the corners and edges. There's also a little wear down the mouthedge and a slight rounding of the corners. The top seam is holding fine although the bottom seam has a split in the middle about 1" long. The spine has some little laminate creases running through it but is unsplit and the title - bar a crease running through the S in Soul - is fully legible. The back cover has creamed a little, moreso down the mouthedge. There's some creasing, most noticeable along the laminated overflaps and has a few spots of light discolouration. Overall, the sleeve is looking okay.

The playing surface has a nice shine to it but is colovered in light surface scuffs along with a few slightly heavier looking scuffs that aren't feelable under the finger. I'd say this would play with constant, light crackle.

Both labels are looking pretty good with a good colour and brightness. There's some light spotting, some light spindlewear and a little whitening around the centrehole but these don't really detract much away from the label as a whole.
