Please be aware that all records are VISUALLY graded only - all grades are given based on how they appear under my desk lamp - since I do not own a record player. I cannot guarantee that discs will be click and skip free, although any marks and scratches that might possibly cause such problems will be highlighted clearly in the description.

This auction is for a very rare and highly collectible copy of the American Beatles LP 'Introducing... the Beatles' on the VeeJay label. What makes this copy special is that it's a 100% authentic, genuine 'Version 1' pressing that lists the songs 'Love Me Do and 'P. S. I Love You'!!!

When the Beatles were making it big in England, George Martin set about trying to get their music released in America. He approached Capitol records, whom EMI owned along with Parlophone, but they refused to. Undeterred George then started approaching other, smaller record labels to release the music. VeeJay were the label to take them on.

The album was initially released with the tracks 'P. S. I Love You' and 'Love Me Do' but VeeJay, as it turned out, did not have permission to publish these two songs, and VeeJay very soon had to stop production and replace these tracks with 'Ask Me Why' and 'Please Please Me'.

The vast majority of authentic copies of this album list Ask Me Why and Please Please Me. Only approximately 10% list the original songs! These are very hard to find!

Introducing the Beatles is one of the most counterfeited LPs of all time. However, this is a 100% authentic, genuine pressing. Nearly every fake version 1 was printed as stereo whereas most mono version 1 copies are genuine. This copy has the right colour hue, it has George's shadow, it has the 1/4" internal overflaps at the top and bottom of the mouth (on fakes this overflap is much longer) and the back passes the 'Honey' test (fakes have a chunk of the H in Honey missing). The deadwax on the record is less than 1" thick and has the 'Audiomatrix' stamp (fakes have a deadwax larger than 1" and no Audiomatrix stamp) and the credit 'The Beatles' is above the spindlehole. On every fake this credit is below the spindlehole!

This pressing, identified by its label style, is catalogued by Bruce Spizer as VJ 1062 (1).MR1C and was pressed at Southern Plastics Inc. in Tennessee.

The cover is sadly the victim of an over-active history (it is over 50 years old now). The front has noticeable ringwear, the top and bottom seams are totally split and hinges on the spine (which is actually looking surprisingly good with minimal wear and mostly legible text!). The back has some light staining, browning, wear and ringwear. Like I say, looking decidedly fragile. But at least it's an authentic Version 1 sleeve!   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : FAIR-

The disc, sadly, is covered in scuffs, marks and scratched - some light, some a little heavier. I wouldn't say that it was completely trashed and looks like it could probably still play, albeit with crackle and possible skips, but it certainly looks like a *lot* of people have enjoyed it throughout it's life!

The labels are have no stickers, writing or anything and have some light wear, most noticeably on the rainbow band. Both labels have some excessive whitening around the centrehole as you can see in the photos above.
