The Beatles : Please Please Me 1N / 2N 7th Mono Press 1963
This is another stunning example from that Beatles collection and it does not disappoint! The clarity, definition, depth and power of the audio is outstanding and the only 'intrusion' is one quiet dull tick on 'Anna (Go To Him)'. I cannot overstate how sharp and well defined the music is. It was recorded loud but there is no loss in sonic quality, the audio is exceptionally clear believe me. It is another FINAL UPGRADE archive classic in my opinion and along with the others it has been so well preserved down the decades. As stated previously the warmth and depth on the early mono pressings is more impressive compared to their stereo counterparts and that is exemplified on such a clean vinyl. It goes without saying that the vinyl is visually in superb condition also.
As is the laminated G & L Patents Pending cover! Near Mint- is fair as it has barely any shelf wear and has to be the best I have ever seen. I hope the photos do it justice! It has retained its original shape and structure perfectly and the original Emi inner is stunning also.
This I believe is the 7th mono pressing with the 1N/2N matrix where the N on S2 is strongly pressed into the vinyl. It has the 'Gramophone Co Ltd...' text around the labels and the 'Sold in U.K. Subject...' text also. This was pressed in 1969.

Visual descriptionThe vinyl is in beautiful condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Looking under a bright light I can only locate a very small number of ultra faint hairlines and a handful of tiny faint specks. It really is a stunner! There is no groove or surface wear and the run out grooves are so clean also. The yellow / black Parlophone labels are unmarked aside from some spindle wear but not too much. There is no KT tax code on this release.
Play grading
The run in on S1 has hardly any static and the countdown intro on 'I Saw Her Standing There' is perfect. The instrumental intro / opening vocal section is loud and clear with no intrusion. From then onwards it plays with wonderful quality - the vocals are so loud in the mix but they sound fantastic! The actual music is crystal clear also and that is demonstrated during the instrumental break. It could not play any better and Mint is fully deserved.
There is complete silence in the dead wax and then 'Misery' plays with stunning precision from the very first note. There is one barely audible static on the first vocal but it doesn't really qualify as background! It continues to play with a clarity and definition that you only find on a beautifully preserved vinyl that has only been infrequently played. Every section is so clean and succinct and an example of the clarity is on the fade out which has not even a single dust tick. It still deserves a Mint grade such is the sonic quality.
'Anna (Go To Him)' impresses on every level also. The more low key moments play with exceptional clarity and warmth and Lennon's more powerful vocal sections play with great definition and with zero distortion. I was about to say Mint but there is one light dull tick just before the fade out so I'll say Near Mint
There are no issues with 'Chains' which plays with imperious quality through every vocal and instrumental piece. Mint
'Boys' is another powerful track with Starr on vocal duties and sonically it cannot be faulted. The playback is so clean, even during the instrumental bridge, and there is no distortion on the top end. Mint
The brief intro on 'Ask Me Why' is perfect as is the opening vocal and it proceeds in much the same way. Perhaps a hint of inner groove distortion on the vocal but it's so so minimal and 100% non-intrusive. It's what you would expect on the penultimate track and the very brief closing instrumental is literally 'as new'. Mint-
What follows is a superb version of 'Please Please Me'. Admittedly there is a bit more inner groove distortion but it's been a long time since I heard this classic playing as clearly as this. So often it is unplayable but in no way is that the case here. Taking into account this is the final track I think Near Mint is a fair grade.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The classics keep coming! The harmonica intro on 'Love Me Do' is 'as new' and the opening vocal section from both Lennon and McCartney is so clean and precise with not even one dust tick. The clarity is STUNNING and it continues in exactly the same way. I know I can get a little overenthusiastic when it comes to top level audio but I can be forgiven here! This truly is audio of the highest order and the entire track including the fade out can be described 'as new'. The harmonica sound is as clean as I have ever heard! MINT all the way.
'P.S. I Love You' is of the same high end standard and 'Baby's It's You' then plays with sensational clarity and warmth all the way through with, you guessed it, no ticks, clicks, pops or static. Both grade as Mint
The gentle opening on 'Do You Want To Know A Secret' plays with perfect clarity and the first verse is equal to that. From then on - pure audio at its finest! This is Mint from start to finish.
'A Taste Of Honey' is much the same. If there is any vocal distortion it is so so minimal. The echo effect on McCartney's vocal at certain points is as strong and clear as it ever was and sonically this track cannot be faulted. Again no background on the fade out. Mint-
For a penultimate track 'There's A Place' plays with sublime clarity and power and again if there is any vocal distortion it is barely noticeable. I don't even know why I mention it really, brutally honest I guess! Mint-
As this LP is from that same Beatles collection it's not surprising 'Twist And Shout' plays with great quality. The final track so you expect just a little more inner groove distortion but it is still a damn good version. Lennon's vocal is so strong and powerful and this is undeniably the cleanest version I have heard in years. Let's say Near Mint
The G & L Patents Pending Cover & Inner Sleeve
This a stunning example of this iconic cover. The edges and spine are pristine and there is hardly any wear on the corners. The opening edge does have a slightly rough look, a little handling wear, and the front cover remains in superb condition. There is no laminate damage - just a small number of small faint edge creases next to the spine and a couple by the bottom edge. The back cover is in remarkable condition! Non-laminated of course and yet so clean with no marking or creasing. The flipbacks are impeccably clean and they are (of course) still firmly attached to the cover. It doesn't get much better than this!
This album was issued with one of the sepia Emi advertising inners and it is in superb shape with no side splits or tears, no marking and hardly any creasing.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
