BEATLES UK – Sgt Pepper, hybrid, original mono/stereo sleeve.

PCS 7027 – 1960s, black and sliver, one EMI box Parlophone labels.

A UK album in original condition featuring:

1. during 1969 in the UK, EMI were getting ready for the new ‘Stereo’ music format. This particular sleeve variant of Sgt Pepper has a hard to find ‘hybrid’ mono/stereo sleeve. Ever keen to cut back on any waste, EMI made an attempt to utilise their remaining stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves, by experimenting by adding an additional line of text onto their old stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves. The text ‘PCS 7027 stereo’ was added to ‘some’ of the remaining Pepper mono flipback sleeves, to the rear, top right corner. These sleeves have now become known as ‘hybrid’ sleeves and are hard to find as EMI did not print many. It appears that EMI soon realised that the future of mono records was over and that it was decided after all to ‘scrap’ their old stock of Pepper mono flipback sleeves, as do few of these hybrid sleeves were ever printed. EMI soon went on to print ‘stereo’ only Pepper sleeves.

2,  an early set of mother / stampers on side two, that are: ‘1  GLO’.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition and is fully laminated. An original UK mono / stereo hybrid ‘flipback’ gatefold sleeve. The spine is in very good++ condition and has remained a good clean white and all of the text on the spine is clear to read.  There are NO tears, splits, pen writing, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. At the bottom of the spine there is some slight discolouring and on the rear there is some indentations of some writing.

THE INSERT: the original insert is in near excellent condition. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue. There are some age related marks on it, here and there and a slight water mark to the front left, bottom corner.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original period EMI red and white advertising sleeve. The sleeve has two excellent clean and unworn opening edges. There are NO tears, stains, pen writing, splits, stickers or sticker residue.  

THE RECORD: is in very good++ condition, it has remained dark and glossy. The vinyl is made from the period 1960s thick, heavy vinyl.

The matrix  nos. are:  YEX  637 – 1  and  YEX  638 - 1,  

The mother / stampers are:  ‘2  G H T’ and very early: ‘1  G L O’,

THE AUDIO: is near excellent, it plays with relatively quiet grooves, but with some light ‘ticks’ to be heard here and there. The long fade out to the track ‘A day in the life’ plays with relatively quiet grooves. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: side one is in very good+ condition, side two is in near excellent condition. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

PACKING  -  ALL RECORDS ARE POSTED WITH MULTI LAYERED CARD STIFFENERS FOR PROTECTION.BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
