· BOB DYLAN – COLUMBIA APRIL 1962 DEMO SAMPLER- INSANELY RARE ORIGINAL 1962 DEMO SAMPLER : ONE OF THE RAREST OFFICIAL DYLAN RELEASES IN EXISTENCE, THIS STEREO SAMPLER WAS RELEASED TO PROMOTE (AMONG OTHER COLUMBIA TITLES OF THE PERIOD) BOB DYLAN'S GROUNDBREAKING FIRST ALBUM ("BOB DYLAN") - PROMO-ONLY RELEASE - NEVER COMERCIALLY RELEASED IN THIS FORM - ORIGINAL 1962 COLUMBIA STEREO LP (NO NUMBER, BUT THE MATRIX STAMPS ON THE RECORDS ARE AS FOLLOWS: SIDE 1: XSM-55655-1A; SIDE 2: XXSM-55656-1A
· ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING
· This extraordinary release has an unusual medley of three Dylan tracks from his first album : Talkin' New York; Fixin' To Die and Gospel Plow (from 'Bob Dylan', Columbia CL 1779/CS 8579, released March 1962);. The Side 1 label has a strange mistake in that it identifies the Dylan tracks as being from Freewheelin', although the catalogue numbers are correct for Bob Dylan's first album ; The Freewheelin' - Bob Dylan's second album - would not be released for exactly another year ( March 1963), All the other tracks on this sampler, mostly classical, are from 1962. Perhaps Bob's first album had been provisionally titled "Freewheelin'", although it had been released a month earlier, so it really remains a pretty big mystery why Columbia misidentified the album source for these three tracks.
· *** WHITE LABEL PROMO ***
· ORIGINAL COLUMBIA LABEL, WHITE PROMO VERSION (DEMO VERSION OF THE LABEL, NOT THE REGULAR STOCK COLUMBIA LABEL)
· THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.
· CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS
· THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING
· MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) ENDS WITH '-1A/-1A'. ON SOME LABELS, SUFFIX '–1' DENOTES THE VERY FIRST, ORIGINAL PRESSING)
· MACHINE-STAMPED MATRIX NUMBER IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) OF THE RECORD

Here's a rare Dylan-related item for all you hard-core completist collectors. I haven't seen any substantive information about this one on the web anywhere. This is an April 1962 Columbia demonstration record (XSM-55655/55656), featuring stereo excerpts from current albums. Most of the tracks are easy listening or classical, but at the end of side one is a Dylan track. Actually, it's one track comprised of stereo excerpts from three songs off Dylan's 1st album: "Talkin' New York," "Fixin' To Die," and "Gospel Plow." Each of these plays for about 2 minutes before fading out. Interestingly, the album title that these are supposedly excerpted from is listed as "Freewheeling," though the catalog numbers are correct for Dylan's first LP, which came out in March of 1962. "Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" didn't come out until 1963, and had none of these excerpted songs on it. Though there's no date on the record itself, all the other albums excerpted seem to have been released in Spring 1962. This record came in a plain white paper sleeve- no jacket. Not sure if there ever was a jacket, but I suspect not.

CONDITION:
RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) The condition of the 3-part Dylan medley track: NEAR MINT
(c) The record comes in a hi-grade MFSL PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!
(d) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(e) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
· This promo demo disc comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in a plain, generic, white cardboard cover (not separately graded, but in great condition overal)
