BOBBY DARIN # 1 1959 78 Mack The Knife (E--)

BOBBY DARIN. ATCO 6147 (Cdn) Mack The Knife/Was There A Call For Me
Probably the record Bobby Darin is best known for, Mack The Knife held down the # 1 spot for nine weeks in late 1959, a time when barely anybody was making or buying 78s. It’s a great timeless performance. Good luck adding this rare one to your collection. First copy I’ve seen in over thirty years on the hunt.

This 78 visually grades a nice shiny V+++ (as opposed to E--) with some superficial marks, some ‘angel-hair’ surface scratches and a touch of wear – a bit more on the ‘A’ side. Spot-checked, thoroughly. You’ll hear a touch of mild surface nosie in the quieter beginning of ‘Mack’ but as the band starts to simmer, then boil, the main thing you hear is Bobby D. driving that band onward. The ‘B’ side sounds just fine with a couple of isolated ticks. There is a piece of tape on the ‘A’ side label.
Scarce in any shape, this one should work well in your collection. Again, good luck. No reserve.

Please check my other auctions for more great 78s. Win a bunch and save on shipping. Remember, I can ship up to two 78s for the same price as shipping one.

Unless otherwise stated, 78s are carefully cleaned by hand before listing. Upon receiving, your only job will be to enjoy the music.
78s come in used but nice vintage green sleeves or, when possible, original paper sleeves.
I do my spot-checking and play testing on a Technics 1200 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge using a standard Stanton 2.7 stylus. The amp is a mid-70s Pro-Linear with the mono switch activated. The speakers are small professional recording studio monitors (Yamaha NS 10) that are known for being overly bright – great for spotting that mild surface noise!
I ship 78s as I like to receive them - using the four-sheet 10” cardboard sandwich, foam chips, 12" x 12" x 4 "(or 6") box method.
I use standard 78 grading (E+, E, E-, V+, V, V- etc). I’ll sometimes use double plus or minus signs to really hone in on the shape.
