GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a turntable Rega Planar 3 with a moving magnet cartridge Grado Statement 1. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a turntable Thorens TD 166 BC with a MM cartridge Goldring 1006. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : musiche composte da Sandro Brugnolini e Luigi Malatesta. Quest'ultimo dirige anche l'orchestra. Spiccatamente propenso alla musica jazz Sandro Brugnolini mentre Luigi Malatesta ha maggiormente concentrato i suoi interessi alle musiche d'atmosfera, d'ambiente e folk. Questa bella complementarietà compositiva si attualizza magnificamente in "Gungala....", che essendo un film dai costi assai contenuti, lasciò maggior spazio espressivo ai musicisti. Jazz nelle sue molteplici tipologie e derivazioni (free, Afro, bossa, musica lounge) si alternano piacevolmente a tracce con romantici o drammatici temi che descrivono avventura ed esoticità. Fra quest'ultime cito le due versioni di "Tam Tam Marimba" (a9, b9) ambedue caratterizzate da un ritmo ossessivo con percussioni insistenti e la presenza del sax che simula voci e rumori della giungla (a9) e di un flauto o altro strumento simile dal suono tenue ed esotico (b9). "Gungala Serenata" (b8) è tema romantico con chitarra e un buon assolo di tromba con un sottofondo moderatamente percussivo. "Inesorabile Giungla" (b1) evoca allo stesso tempo il fascino e i pericoli dell’avventura.  Le tracce che definirei di carattere jazzistico sono sette - a1, a4, a6, a8, b2, b5, b7. "Afro Free" (a1), uno dei migliori brani dell'album, è ricco d'improvvisazioni ed assoli di pianoforte e tromba con l'ottimo supporto di basso e batteria, "Bakenda Beat" (b2), entusiasmante Afro-jazz, ha percussioni vigorose, assolo di sax e presenza della chitarra, "Sophisticated July" (b7) è una piacevole composizione lounge con alcune belle improvvisazioni jazz dell'organo Hammond. Infine le due versioni di "Gungala Nido" (a6, b5). La prima ha carattere romantico con un buon assolo jazz del sax e l'intervento di piano, basso e batteria. La seconda è una bossa raffinata con ottimi virtuosismi di sax e piano.

Notes : music composed by Sandro Brugnolini and Luigi Malatesta. The latter also conducts the orchestra. Sandro Brugnolini is markedly inclined to jazz music whereas Luigi Malatesta has focused his main interest in atmospheric music and folk. This excellent compositive complementarity is actualized magnificently in "Gungala…" that being a low-budget film allowed a greater expressive freedom. Jazz in its various genres and derivations such as free, Afro, bossa, lounge music alternate agreeably to romantic and dramatic themes describing adventure and exoticism.  Among the latter I quote the two versions of "Tam Tam Marimba" (a9, b9) both characterized by an obsessive rhythm with insistent percussion and the presence of sax imitating voices and noises of the jungle (a9) and of a flute or another similar wind instrument from the feeble and exotic sonority (b9). "Gungala Serenata" (b8) is a romantic theme accompanied by the guitar and with an excellent trumpet solo on a moderately percussive background. "Inesorabile Giungla" (b1) evokes at the same time charm and dangers of adventure. The tracks I would define to have jazz character are seven – a1, a4, a6, a8, b2, b5, b7. One of the best tracks on the album is "Afro Free" (a1) full of improvisations and solos by trumpet and piano with the remarkable support of bass and drums, "Bakenda Beat" (b2) is an exciting Afro-jazz tune from the percussive texture with sax solo and guitar presence. "Sophisticated July" (b7) is a nice lounge track with jazz improvisations of Hammond organ. Finally, the two versions of "Gungala Nido" (a6, b5). The first has romantic feature with an excellent jazz solo of sax and the presence of piano, bass and drums. The second is a refined bossa with beautiful virtuosities from sax and piano.
