READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Beatles 2-LP The Beatles’ Story 1971 Apple Jax Very Cool Error on Side 4, EX!
As a collector, if you like errors like I like errors, here’s a very cool one for your collection. Side 4 has a double-struck label, the first of which ended up in the dead wax by quite a bit. The trail-off groove has been pressed into the paper label the full width, and the stylus can still follow it to the end. I wouldn’t recommend that you let your delicate stylus track the dead wax groove on this one, it’s just slightly far out that it still operates. It sounds horrifying though.
Sides are configured 1-4, 2-3.
Vinyl--- NM/EX. VG/NM. I’m not sure what happened to Side 3, but it has a lot of light, non-feelable scratches. The other three sides look either unplayed or close to it.
Plates--- W8/W6. W6/W9. Machine-Stamped letter “O” in the dead wax on all four sides makes this copy pressed in Jacksonville.
Cover--- VG. Structurally very strong. Front cover has wear across the bottom ¼. Light ringwear at the top. Back cover has very light ringwear. Both front and back have light to moderate yellowing, which is where it loses pedigree points. Not bad, though. NO SPLIT SEAMS.
Gatefold--- VG+. Much the same as the cover. The light yellowing isn’t bad. NO CENTER SEAM SPLITS.
Labels--- NM/NM. EX/NM. All four labels look 1971-new. Side 3 label has a light spindle mark. Tilt it toward a strong light source to see it.
All four labels have the improved Jacksonville labels that went from dark, high gloss, which were susceptible to spindle marks to the dull-textured lighter labels that resist spindle marks.
Apple Inner Sleeves--- VG. Generic white inner sleeves with die-cut holes for the labels to show is present. Both sleeves have heavily yellowed. One sleeve has a one-inch center split at the bottom, all other seams have no splits.
Generic inner sleeves will be provided, so as not to damage your original Apple inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: N/A
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
