Description
The Beatles "Love Me Do"/"P.S. I Love You" Very Rare Canadian Vinyl 7-Inch Single (Capitol, 72076). An extremely rare item for you Fab Four lovers! Less than 10 known in the world, this is a Canadian copy of the Beatles' "Love Me Do" single (with "P.S. I Love You" on the flip side). This version features Ringo on the drums. Has "7XCE 17144" etched on the run-out groove on the "Love Me Do" side and has "7XCE 17145" on the "P.S. I Love You" side.
Canada Capitol pressed five variations of this single on Capitol 72076. This 45 is known as "variation one." Variation one is the ultra-rare first 45 rpm was released on Feb. 4, 1963, in Canada on Capitol 72076. It was the first record issued in all of North America credited to the Beatles on Capitol Records. It predates the first Beatles' V.J. release by just over two weeks. It was dubbed from the original U.K. single (Parlophone R4949).
The initial run was for 1,000 copies. Two hundred of them were distributed to Canadian radio stations and media, with just 88 copies sold at the retail level through Canadian record stores. The remaining 700+ copies were sent back to the pressing plant, where they were melted and recycled.
As described above, these first 1,000 pressings are identified in two ways: 1) By the slightly larger handwritten aforementioned matrix numbers in the run-off grooves. (No dash or number follow them.) 2) The most important identifier is the "R" of Capitol Records (9 o'clock label position) is printed into the yellow part of the record label.
PLEASE READ NOTE: I was informed that this is not the exact record as about. The "R" in "records" needs to be in the yellow on both sides, not one. But this still is the original CA pressing.
