1963 UK 1st GOLD LABEL MONO PRESSING LP

This true 1st mono pressing of this historic album dates from the week of release in March 1963 and is on the initial gold & black Parlophone label: PMC 1202

The publishing credits for tracks 1, 2, 6 & 7 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2 are credited to 'Dick James Mus. Co.'

A faint 'MT' purchase tax code is visible around the side 2 centre hole.

Housed in a correct, early front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner (beginning beneath the final 's' of Songs').

Complete with an original 'Use Emitex..' poly-lined inner-sleeve.

As you can see this is a sparkling, clean & unblemished set with no wear or damage to any of the delicate gold print. There is a touch of wear around each centre hole and a few stylus scratches around the edges of the side 2 label, but no spindle marks, writing or missing paper. The pictures tell the full story.

Visual: VERY GOOD

Both playing surfaces are bright & clean with a good deal of thier deep-gloss shine still intact. Careful inspection in strong daylight show some wear consistent with frequent handling & play which inlcudes a touch of whitening to the grooves on the final three tracks of each side. There are also several noticeable surface marks & light scratches, but none are deep enough to be felt beneath my fingertips. Close examination directly beneath my powerful and unforgiving halogen desk lamp reveals some more light hairlines but its sparkling rainbow shine is still present. Both sides of this early copy lie 100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping to either side.

Play: VERY GOOD

Despite having received a fair amount of play, the sound quality is extremely respectable & is without any major deterioration to the sound quality throughout. The only significant distractions is a moderate repeating click which runs from the final 20 seconds of 'Boys' to the first 15 seconds of 'Ask Me Why'. There are also 2 pops at the beginning of 'Twist & Shout' & some minor play wear on the final 2 track of side 2. However there are definately no jumps, repeats or any other such major audible faults and certainly more to enjoy than to fault overall.

Cover

VERY GOOD

This correct and fully intact example displays general handling & storagewear commensurate with its 47 years, but has no major faults. The front panel is bright & glossy with the only blemish being a small scratch above the red 'M' in 'Please, Please Me' and some small bends in the upper corner areas. All corners display some wear but less so tpo the opening edges where there is no tears or 'feathering'. The rear panel is clean & bright and is completely free form any significant marks or any writing or missing paper. There is an ancient repair to the upper left flipback edges but they are all present and relatively unworn. Both seams unstressed & unsplit and the spine, although bearing a touch of wear, is is fully worded and unstressed.

Inner-sleeve

VERY GOOD

Clean & white with a little storage wrinkling but no writing, seams splits or tears anywhere.
