READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles LP Beatles’ Second Album “Subsidiary of” Shrink KOOKY ERROR! LP PLAYS SOMETHING NEW!

You read that right.  This copy has “The Beatles’ Second Album” labels on both sides.  Packaged in a “Beatles’ Second Album” cover.  But this copy plays “Something New!”

This copy is also a consigned STEREO copy from the Columbia record pressing plant!  MONO consignment copies outsold STEREO copies 4 to 1, because MONO was the dominant format until 1968. 

A stunning and thoughtful Christmas gift.  If you think your Beatles collector has it all, this one will make them fly off five feet to the left, shouting, “Jingle all the way!”

Vinyl--- VG+.  Both sides have a light to modest share of fine needle marks.  Side 2 has some noticeable ones under normal room light, but the rest have to be searched for.  See photos.

Plates--- I3/ W7.  Catalogue numbers in the dead wax on both sides are the “Something New” catalogue number, “ST-2108,” designations of Sides 1 and 2.  See photos.

Cover--- EX.  Slight yellowing down the mouth of the back cover.  Otherwise, this cover boasts the earlier cream-colored front slick of the late ‘60’s.  All seams are as bold and strong as they were the day of first issue.  Remnants of price tag still on shrink.  Looks like this may have been a previous gift, as the price amount is peeled off.

Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover.  One is in the letter “N” in the word, “Second,” and the other is due south, just above Ringo’s eye.

Labels--- Much nicer than in the photos!  I had to brighten the scratches in order for them to show up, because I don’t want the buyer to find them years down the road and be disappointed. In person, these scratches aren’t even noticeable!

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Generic white, with no die-cut holes for the labels to show through.  Bottom and one side seam are split an inch or two.

This Week’s Research Labels--- As a new feature to my auctions for labels collectors, I’m going to start a research project series for those who are interested.  This week’s pick is the 1975 Apple pressing of “The Beatles’ Story” with the “All Rights Reserved” disclaimer at the bottoms of the labels on two lines.  Believe it or not, copies pressed by Capitol with the concentric groove a quarter of an inch from the playhole are extremely rare.  By far, and I daresay about one in a few hundred copies have this concentric groove.  The rest have the concentric groove much closer to the outer edge of the labels, and they are pressed by the LA plant.  These scarcer copies are pressed by the Winchester plant.  See photos, and then see if you can locate one!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
