Offered for sale is a copy of the limited edition, 14 LP box set, The Beatles Collection, issued in 1982 by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs.

While not overly rare as Beatles rarities go, the 1982 release, The Beatles Collection is one of the most sought-out items by the band.  Issued in a limited edition pressing of 25,000 copies, The Beatles Collection contains all thirteen of the band's original British albums, pressed on high-quality "Super Vinyl" by JVC in Japan and half speed mastered for optimum sound quality.

Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound, with later issues pressed in the U.S. by RTI. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate.  The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass.  By their very nature, all of Mobile Fidelity's titles were limited-edition pressings, and The Beatles Collection was limited to 25,000 numbered copies.  The set sold out in a matter of just a few months.

The set was issued in a lavish box with brass hinges along with a 12"x12" photo booklet and a Geodisc phono cartridge alignment tool.  Each of the albums was packaged in a special cover that depicted a photo of that particular album's master tape.  Each album also included a custom posterboard stiffener to prevent warpage.

Each of these sets was numbered on the inside of the book.  This copy is #8491.  The book still has its original protective white cover, which was intended to be discarded.  Also included is a then-current catalog of Mobile Fidelity releases, a special catalog promoting The Beatles Collection itself (which we have never seen) and a Mobile Fidelity warranty card.

The records are M-, and look essentially unplayed.  The box is VG+, with just traces of wear on the corners and a couple of small scuffs.

A beautiful copy of a terrific and highly desirable set.  If you are only going to own one Beatles item, this is a great one to have.
