Description
This is an outstanding example of the Beatles WHITE ALBUM Top Opening MONO first pressing.
It is COMPLETE and TOTALLY ORIGINAL.
Sleeve.
Probably one of the best examples you will find. Top opening. Solid thick card construction with an excellent "off white" colour typical and unique to the first pressing. NO damage, NO feathering and NO tears at the opening other than a miniscule nick. Solid internal flipbacks with NO lifting. NO seam splits and absolutely NO edgewear whatsoever (really hard to find). NO stains, NO yellowing and NO handwriting ANYWHERE. All four corners are superbly square and undamaged with NO dents. Clearly legible number on the front (No: 0217256) with NO fading. Absolutely NO ringwear (almost impossible to find given a tendancy for the records to leave an impression on the sleeve). A STRONG spine with NO bending. NO peeling and NO cracking to the laminate ANYWHERE other than a tiny amount on the spine which is barely noticable and a couple of what we can only describe as very light "wrinkles" clearly done in manufacture. The back of the sleeve has NO printing on it denoting a true MONO sleeve. A really supreme example. Overall condition: NEAR MINT.
Inner Sleeves.
Original BLACK inner sleeves die cut on ONE SIDE only. Both have seam splits but hold the records without a problem. NO fading, NO feathering and NO tearing at the openings and NO tearing around the centre holes. Overall condition: VERY GOOD PLUS.
Colour Photos.
On thick heavy card unique to the first pressing. Undamaged with NO pin holes and NO sellotape. Totally flat with NO bending and NO creases. Tiny hairlines on Paul, George and Ringo typical of removing and replacing in the outer sleeve and a small mark on the edge of John. Overall condition: EXCELLENT.
Poster.
Full length poster with “The Kiss” and “I love you” denoting a TRUE first issue poster. Song lyrics are printed on the back. All folds are undamaged with NO tearing. All corners are square with NO pin holes and NO sellotape. This poster has clearly has never been displayed on a wall but kept inside the album. There is a tiny one inch tear straddling one fold but unless you knew it was there you would never notice it. Overall condition: EXCELLENT PLUS.
Records.
Text.
Displaying “Sold in U.K. subject to retail price conditions, see price lists” and “An E.M.I. Recording” and “P 1968” on all four sides. Side 1 reads PMC 7067 (XEX 709-1) (Mother Stamp PL 4) Side 2 reads PMC 7067 (XEX 710-1) (Mother Stamp AP 3). Side 3 reads PMC 7068 (XEX 711-1) (Mother Stamp PD 5). Side 4 reads PMC 7068 (XEX 712-1) (Mother Stamp AH 2).
Labels.
Sides 1 and 3 DARK GREEN Apple. Sides 2 and 4 White Apple. NO centre hole wear. Very light spider marks not visible in ordinary light. NO fading. NO damage. NO stickers. KT tax stamped on side 2 ONLY. Overall condition: EXCELLENT PLUS.
Playing Surfaces.
Side 1.
NO scuffs, NO scratches and NO deterioration in sound quality. Great sound even on headphones. Minor bag rash when examined in strong light. Appearance is totally MINT in normal light. Overall condition: EXCELLENT PLUS.
Side 2.
NO scuffs. NO scratches and NO deterioration in sound quality. Great sound even on headphones. Again, minor bag rash where the record has been removed and replaced in its sleeve but appearance is MINT in normal light. Overall condition: EXCELLENT PLUS.
Side 3.
TWO SMALL lateral scratches straddling the tracks “Birthday” and “Mother Natures Son”. Obviously done carelessly by the record player needle but very light and non sounding whilst playing. Great sound even on headphones. The usual minor bag rash in strong light. Appearance is NEAR MINT in normal light. Overall conditiom: EXCELLENT.
Side 4.
NO scuffs. NO scratches and NO deterioration in sound quality. Great sound even on headphones. Usual VERY LIGHT bag rash evident under strong light and something that is quite normal on any record of this age. MINT appearance in normal light. Overall condition: EXCELLENT PLUS.
Overall Rating.
A really great example of this double album. The sleeve in particular will be extremely difficult to better. The original poster is also very fine. The records are in very nice condition and have clearly seen little playing in nearly forty years. Quite an achievement for an album that sold in millions and was played on frankly cheap and nasty ‘60s record players. This one has clearly managed to avoid many of the pitfalls of others and remains a great example that apart from the seam split black inner sleeves would probably not need upgrading.
Our description.
We have examined this album in minute detail to tell you EVERYTHING there is to know about it's condtion. We have left NOTHING out. We know how disappointing it is to receive a record that sounded wonderful in the auction description but which turns out to be no where near as good when you see it for real. We have told you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Packing.
Records will be inserted into disposable protective inner sleeves to protect the original inner sleeves. The records, poster, photos and sleeves will then be inserted BETWEEN the gatefold and NOT back into the album itself. The item will then be packaged using CUSTOM packaging materials including reinforced sides and corners. We DO NOT use commercially available packing materials because we do not believe they are up to the job. The package will then be despatched by a trackable and traceable postal service FULLY INSURED with specific information supplied to the buyer on despatch.
And By The Way.
The appearance of the SLEEVE in photo number 4 is simply the reflection from our camera flash and NOT any damage to the inner gatefold itself.
