Description of sleeves

First copy Number 0301030 IN OVERALL VERY GOOD CONDITION, is quite clean has no tears, but has a crease on the bottom left corner more obvious on the back

This copy I think is generally known as a transition copy and so includes the word stereo on the back cover.

Second copy Number 0202374 is grubby looking has a 4 inch long tear on the inside of the gatefold, a few little tears around the top openers, and has some ringwear, but is the original mono cover.

All 4 records are housed in the original black inners, with one of the inners having a few tears to the label opening.

Posters

One poster is in very good condition with no tears and no marks, the other is in good condition with turned up corners and a couple of small tears on the creases. Both posters have been opened a few times but there are no pin holes evident.

Photos

2 sets of photos!! one set in excellent condition, with no obvious defects and the other set is in very good condition with some small crease marks on the top corners.

Both sets of photos are still shiny and quite presentable.

Vinyl

4 Discs!!

1st Disc

The one disc is marked stereo on both sides, its matrix number is:

on side 1 YEX 709-1 at 6 o'clock and a stamper GPL at 3 o'clock and 2 at 9 o'clock,

on side 2 has matrix number YEX 710-1 at slightly to the right of 6 o'clock, stamper PR at around 1.5 cm north of 3 o'clock and 2 at 1cm south of the 9 o'clock position.

On side 1 there is a small 1cm long audible scratch at the start of the side, but is only barely audible over the music of Back in the USSR, further in there is a 3-4 scuff/scratch around halfway through "Dear Prudence" but i can't hear it on playing , even through the quiet acoustic play out of the track, and thats it for that side, it plays perfect as far as i can tell and looks very clean.

On side 2 of the stereo disc, there is a light scratch that runs from the start through to the end of "i'm so tired" but this is not audible. That light scratch seems to continue through to " Dont pass me by" but is still inaudible. At this point another light scratch is present but this one is also inaudible so overall the whole disc plays really quite well with very little if anything to detract from the music.

2nd disc

This disc is not marked stereo so would assume it is the mono version. 

Side 3 has a matrix number at around the 3 o'clock position which is XEX 711-1 and a stamper 2 at  around the 6.30 position, with another stamper of T at 12.30 ish.

I guess the label on side 3 is in the wrong postion as it is different from all the others, so this is probably a mispress! 

There is no " an emi recording" present on the label, on this side.

The side has only 1 small light scratch, around 1.5 cms long at around the start of ' mother natures son' and i cannot hear an audible scratch although there is a small amount of static popping crackle around this song, which does not detract from the music. The whole side sounds in excellent condition, and looks very clean. there is just one spindle mark on the label on side 1, which makes it look as though it has not ben played much at all (can't believe that myself!!)

Side 4

"An EMI recording" is present

The label no is PMC 7068

Matrix number is XEX 712 -1 at around the 6 o'clock but nearly 5.30 position, and there is a stamper of PR at the 2.30 ish position, and 4 at the opposite side (around 8.30 position)

The vinyl of side 4 is as side 3 and very clean to look at, with only 2 marks that i can see, one is a 3 cm long very faint angled scratch/scuff across 'honey pie' which i cannot hear as a distinct click. There is general very quiet crackle throughout but this again does not interfere with the listening pleasure.

The other mark i can see but it is very faint, is a 5-6 cm long scratch across 'cry baby cry' and 'revolution 9' and this again is inaudible.

Overall those two discs just described are in excellent conditon, and have been an absolute pleasure to listen to as critically as i have done. It is not often i get to listen to records as critically as this but is really makes me appreciate and realise more what fantastic things the Beatles and George Martin actually achieved and what a legacy they have left in this fabulous album of music.

3rd Disc

Side 1

Label

Matrix Number (at correct 6 o'clock position) is XEX 709-1

Stamper at 3 o'clock (more 2.30ish) is G

Stamper at correct 9 o'clock position is 1

No Stereo on label so assume it is Mono.

Many spindle marks noted.

Side 1 Vinyl

Many light scratch and scuff marks, vinyl is generally well played with one notably heavier scratch but not a gouge going right across the left side of the record fromthe start of track one to almost the centre of the label. On listening this heavyish scratch is not audible, though there is general light crackle noise at the run in and in the quieter moments. this does not disturb the music too much though, so looks worse than it actually sounds.

My favourite track 'while my guitar gently weeps ' still sounds fantastic!!

Side 2 Label

Stampers at 3 o'clock MG and at 9 o'clock the number 4

Many spindle marks noted. 

Side 2 Vinyl

As side 1 many light scuffs and scratches and general crackling thruought the side, crackling that may upset 'blackbird' officianados but it is not too bad. The vinyl looks a little dull and well played but generally sounds pretty good.

4th Disc

Side 3 Label

Stampers - at 3 o'clock AP and at 9 o'clock the number 7

No stereo indication

Many Spindle marks noted although not as many as the third disc.

Side 3 Vinyl

Generally cleanish with a few scuffs and scratches all over the side but no heavy and notable marks. The sound is much better than Disc 3 and although there is some crackling at the start of the side this crackling is much less and quite inaudible at times.

Side 4 Label

Matrix at 6.30 rather than 6 o'clock XEX 712-1

Stamper at 3 o'clock(ish) MA

and at slightly higher than 9 o'clock the number 5

Only one or two spindle marks noted.

Side 4 Vinyl

There are a few notable scratches and a few scuff marks. the sound thruought is crackly.

I have described these records as critically as i can manage, i may have been over critical, one set has been well used as it should be for such a brilliant production and one has been played and looked after a little better.

Your opinion may be different on the sound quality but i can only describe them the way i hear them.

I have used an Ion ITT USB turntable playing through the computer while i have typing and have used the lightest weight on the stylus. This combination along with increased treble on the speakers has the ability to pick up any crackle, pop or odd noises there are, so it may be your listening experience of these records will be better. I should say on my hi-fi they sound a little better.
