For any collector this is one of the most difficult variants to find. When it was first released in 1963, demand for stereo was almost non existent, as illustrated by the pressing of only 900 original copies which were only available to order through record shops. This album had been continuously available since then and so, by 1969 demand would have been fairly minimal. The evidence of this is clearly illustrated by the 2/1 mothers and still very early stampers. Both sides are a very long way from achieving 3 letters, not uncommon on Beatle discs. In fact, side 2 has only reached the 43rd batch from the 1st mother, which would put it around 21,000, a tiny number after six years. But the true rarity of this disc is the short run of this particular label. In the summer of 1969 the 'sold in the UK' text was dropped and just a few weeks later, EMI introduced the new, single boxed EMI label. Hence, this final yellow parlophone issue enjoyed the shortest shelf life of all the variants.
Both sides of the disc are near perfect, retaining all their original deep gloss lustre and only display a few wispy hairline marks, only visible when tilted towards a bright light. Audio is as close to mint as you are likely to get, with silent run ins and crystal clear sound throughout. Needless to say, there are no clicks, pops, stalls or jumps, from this wonderful example. There is a slight edge warp but this is minimal and has no effect on the performance of this disc.
The labels, which carry 'gramophone co' rim text and no 'sold in the UK', are in near perfect condition, with all text undamaged and vibrant and just a minimal collection of very light spindle trails, very close to the centre hole.
The Garrod and Lofthouse cover, with its small stereo logo, is in fine condition, displaying minimal laminate creases to an otherwise perfect front. The spine is near perfect and the unprotected back panel is free from any writing but does show age browning and a little grubbiness. The flipbacks are tight and undamaged.
The correct, original sepia advertising inner sleeve is in perfect order apart from a little discolouration where the glue has penetrated through the bottom corners.
All in all, a magnificent example of a seldom seen variant.
