You might be familiar with the history of this extremely rare Folk record, in that about only 160 copies survived of this wonderful album. However, what is remarkable about this particular record is that it incredibly includes a personal handwritten letter, seemingly to Melody Maker, from band member Dave Frohsdorff requesting a review in the MM. It is a two-sided letter dated 23.9.76. The opening to the letter gives information on the album and the band, and if you look carefully at his handwriting you will notice that it is the handwriting that is used on the back of the cover. I have included a photo of the back of the letter - you will have to buy the album to find out what Dave has written on the first page!
The record has been cleaned on a Pro-ject VCS MKII cleaning machine with Pro-ject 'Wash It' cleaner and then placed in a new MFSL anti-static inner.
CONDITION
Examined under a strong halogen lamp, side one has one 1cm scratch and some other extremely small and faint scratches, as well as faint sleeve withdrawal marks and other very similar marks mostly visible under the lamp. A visual grade of VG+ for this side. Side two has one very light 1" scratch and faint sleeve withdrawal marks and scuffs only visible under the lamp. Again, this side has a visual grade of VG+. Both sides also have a really fantastic gloss.
When played on a Pro-ject Debut III turntable (recently balanced tone arm and replaced stylus) side one plays with virtually no surface noise apart from 5 soft 'clicks' on track 6 where there are some very faint and small scratches but they are easy to miss. Side two plays with virtually no surface noise apart from some very faint background crackle that comes into the last track. An overall play-grade of Very Good but, putting aside the 'clicks' on side one, it would have comfortably been an Excellent play-grade.
Both labels are clean and undamaged apart from a faint spindle trail on the side two label, and a 'Mecolico' royalties/rights stamp on side one.
The cover has some ringwear, an 8mm tear at the opening, some creasing, some discolouration, surface wear on the front and edges.

GRADING GUIDE - IMPORTANT!
I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects.
I strictly grade my records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG) / Record Collector guidelines (with the addition of NM), which, to me, means as follows:
MINT- Must be sealed
NEAR MINT - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks or any other signs of having been played. I don't use this grade lightly. Whatever people say, such unmarked records DO exist but not nearly as many as others would have you believe with their NM grades.
EXCELLENT - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' sleeve withdrawal mark that is barely visible under a strong lamp.
VERY GOOD - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
GOOD - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through without skips or sticking and will still provide a good listening experience.
FAIR - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping and / or it will play with significant background noise.
POOR - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.
Below Near Mint I will use a plus or minus suffix with a grade to highlight fine differences.
COVER GRADES
I try to ensure that my cover grades are EXACTLY as stated in Record Collector magazine / RRPG. Therefore, if a cover is defaced, stained or torn it CANNOT grade better than FAIR. Likewise, if any part of the contents are missing it CANNOT grade better than POOR. However, if the fault is relatively minor and the rest of the cover is overwhelmingly of a certain grade then I will use this grade.
