Extremely rare ORIGINAL PRESSING ON BLUE WAX FROM 1933!! early Benny Goodman and Billie Holiday's DEBUT recording! Record in EX-/VG+ nearly unplayed, good gloss and no spindling to the labels. Probably one of the tightest, if not the ONLY one you'll see for a while! Backed with Keep On Doin' What You're Doin'. Billie is Miscredited as Halliday on the label!
This record may get some pretty high bids, so be prepared! The Only record I found of a sale of this single was for a VG- copy for (ahem) $140!!
I'll make an audio sample of this, as I want to archive it myself, as the quality of these originals actually surpasses the reissues that we hear, given the masters usually were destroyed at some point. Enjoy the following link to the audio from this record (after completing the archived copy, I am stunned and believe I have maybe the best version I've ever heard!) Most compilations just roll off all of the high end on these recordings, but I've always found that, even though there can be some significant noise, there are higher frequencies there... they just get lost. That is the true difference you can hear!:

This is Holiday’s recording debut at the age of 18. Record producer John Hammond had taken Benny Goodman, Red Norvo and Mildred Bailey to see her in live performance and they quickly concurred she was the real deal. Here, with lyrics courtesy of Johnny Mercer at Holiday’s behest, she was defining her approach to singing through the character part of a woman unlucky in love. The lyrics could have been about riffs, they could have been about Scotch whisky, but were none of those things. They were about jumping from one bad relationship with a man into another. As a 13-year-old feeling her way into jazz in 1928 when she first heard "West End Blues," she was hardly in a position to define her approach to jazz singing. With most of 1929 lost through her run-in with the law, she put together an original approach to jazz singing in just three years, from 1930 to 1933, when this recording was made. By any standards it was a remarkable achievement.
Here is a link to audio taken directly from one of these records (from 1936!!) with no filtration whatsoever. Honest, direct, mono, no EQ, tracked at 3.5 with a 78 cart. The surface noise and random ticks are actually consistent with a mint copy from 1936, but I'm sure most of you will know how clean these are when you hear the sample!

I usually don't sell 78 RPM records, because they're usually boring music and also have been trashed! But this collection of Benny Goodman records are apparently unplayed and very well kept in a sealed box. I've always like Goodman and thought him one of the true artists of jazz, swing and pre-swing era. You will see a lot of very clean 78s in these ads, and please bear in mind I am grading with a trained eye for groove wear, spindling and any subtle signs of play or abuse. These were also stored in the lower acid heavy coated cardboard envelopes, which has contributed to their pristine gloss. These auctions will only run for ONE auction cycle! I will not relist or lower the opening bid, so get them while they're here and thank you for stopping in!
I will combine orders for $2 per disc in the US, and $4 per disc internationally. Also, since ebay won't allow me to charge more than $4 to pack and ship this, you will need to remit the extra $2 if you want these packed in a professional manner. Apparently EBAY knows more about packing records than I do!
