Description
Great, Classic, Michigan Garage Doo Wop on a private label! The Birds Fly Home is the album by The Birds Of Paradise. It came out in 1955 and was the only recording by the High School group of Noel Stookey, who became much better known as the Paul of Peter, Paul & Mary. I can find very little info on this record and I'm guessing that there weren't very many of them. The only place I found any real info was on Stookey's web site:
...We called ourselves the BIRDS OF PARADISE...i think because there were so many r&b groups with aviary names, besides the crows, there were the robins, the sparrows...i’m sure we ‘white-breaded’ the original passion out of these black soul songs, in all fairness we did replace it with a kind of adolescent energy which seemed to substitute well. we did the charms piece TWO HEARTS, one of the center pieces of our program was ‘REAL HUMDINGER’ by the el dorados (i think)...a song called ‘MINE’ became a school favorite and a mainstay of the BOP repetoire...‘THE BIRDS FLY HOME’. the original tapes lost forever, the only hard copy of those sessions are some badly pressed 10" records...i jumped right into songwriting and came up with most of the BOP repetoire, "NURSURY RHYME MAMBO", "VENAE NATURAE"...
I'm starting it at a low minimum bid and no reserve. The cover is VG+. There are no stickers, cut-out marks or writing. It has been reinforced with clear tape, all the way around. I don't think it ever had traditional seams. I think it was basically one piece of paper folded in half. Even the one pictured on Stookey's web site had been taped. The vinyl is a strong VG++. It's very clean. It says "An FHS Production" on the jacket. No label or catalog number on the record label or jacket. Note - The label lists the group as simply, "Birds."
