Black and white swirl labels graced with the unique and MEGA RARE Philips Record Co. credits! This rare text confirms that this is a very rare and the very first pressing of this album release. Later issues do not have this credit on the labels. Almost IMPOSSIBLE to locate nowadays!! Later reissue vertigo labels do not have this on !! Really special indeed. Phillips was the subsidiary company that launched these fantastic vertigo labels,( similar to Deram connections with Decca). This is  the EARLIEST first pressing of this huge, heavy rock album owing to the Philips credits on the lower half of the label. While Vertigo was a new, unfamiliar record label, people needed to know who the manufacturer was. Once the vertigo label was established in the industry, Phillips chose to omit the credit on the later releases.

These rare labels are in excellent condition , displaying several spindle lines. Faint age discoloration around one central hole.  1st pressed ,swirl labels showing NO mottling , peeling, rips nor tears. Black and white swirl label format exceptionally mesmeric and highly collectable.

(((Audio)))

Side1: Opens to soft raindrops and a solitary bell toll…… A clap of thunder launches the listener into a roar of electric guitar bashes and thunderous percussion beats through excellent audio channels. Bass tones are conveyed with a vibrant vigour , only experienced on these earliest pressings. Thick cut, heavyweight monster slab . The wider grooves from these earliest vertigo album releases transmit  sensational vibrant tones, unlike later pressings. At least an excellent aural delivery and considerably better in some parts!!! Gives the listener a trip of a lifetime . Side 2: Again a phenomenal audio, save for 2-3 times during the quieter moments, some distant static heard during the opening grooves  and occasionally during the quieter moments,( still dust lifting from the grooves which is quite common on these vintage classics, where they have been lying dormant for many years) but quite insignificant as music is heard for the most part, through clear channels, delivering the heavy rock guitar riffs with a much deeper resonance, than later releases. One of the best deliveries ever heard from this hard rock vintage classic.

Vinyl surfaces are simply stunning and appear excellent+ under ordinary light conditions. This monster slab boasts a delightful high gloss and oozes class like no other . Virtually unmarked ,save for a solitary surface mark on one side !!! Unbelievable visual for a heavy metal rock classic! NO scratches or unsightly blemishes to report. A magnificent specimen of a phenomenal rock classic . Thick cut, heavy weight press with much wider grooves than later releases and the vinyl is sheer class with a monster feel, the thicker quality vinyl producing a much better sound quality than the flimsier, later pressings.

Complete with the original,1st issue, black and white inner sleeve-excellent+ condition, with seams tight with little to fault. Date of issue stamped on one side, which matches the date stamp on gatefold sleeve. What an exhibit, as this confirms that this vertigo, swirl inner, is THE genuine original ,which was sold all those years ago with this amazing Sabbath debut album release.

Album sleeve

THIS is THE original first issue gatefold sleeve , as vertigo recordings credits are replaced with stereo recordings on inner face of gatefold ,as this was a mistake that had to be quickly corrected..  !  Later gatefolds have the vertigo inscription on right inner face. Even the much later issues had the credit “All recordings”. So this very rare stereo credit, confirms that this IS THE very  first issue and THE earliest gatefold of this album .

Again the genuine article, displaying lyrics INSIDE the inverted cross. Very early album cover with misprinted Osborne name .Black inner faces also, rather than later reissues, which were white in coloration. These trade marks authenticate one of  THE earliest issues of this remarkable album sleeve.  Spine square and solid, clearly showing title . Gatefold opens to jet black inner faces, which project the silver inverted cross with incredible clarity. Very good/Excellent- condition at least. Some corner wear observed, with light top/lower spinal edge wear ,and slight flaking on mid section, but otherwise a beautiful album gatefold, normally found heavily worn, owing to its delicate, matt finish. Edge wear  noticeable on lower edge, but not so visible on top edges. Grading marked down due to hand written address of previous owner, in tiny writing and with a small sticker alongside. Date stamp similar to the one on inner sleeve is also visible, probably a record shop endorsement which many practised at the time. No rips, nor tears and a solid feel to this album gatefold.

A remarkable example of this very famous, collectable sleeve of 40 years old.

A beautiful album presentation with little to fault . Becoming extremely popular with collectors now and almost impossible to find in this EXCELLENT/+ condition .

Simply stunning and of true investment quality .
