Original 1st US Columbia Records Stereo pressing factory sealed copy of Bob Dylan’s 7th studio album “Blonde on Blonde” released on May 16, 1966. Perhaps we’re taking a risk here, but we’re sure that this copy contains the 1st print gatefold cover featuring the photo of the Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. We’ve come to this conclusion as the front cover contains a very rare “Bob Dylan New Album Deluxe 2-Record Set Featuring ‘Rainy Day Women #12 # 35’ and ‘I Want You’” hype sticker underneath the shrink wrap which was affixed only to the very early withdrawn cover. The promotional campaign of this album lasted for the first two months after the release date and included the placement of the sticker on the front cover of the album. There is a common misconception that the photo of Cardinale was removed from the initial pressing's cover at the request of the actress. However, the photographer Jerry Schatzberg refuted this statement saying that it wasn’t Cardinale's lawyers who insisted that Columbia Records remove the photo, but instead it was Dylan's agents who refused to use it. Original 1st print thick gatefold cover contains the rarer 4” x 4.5” hype sticker out of two variations with the second one being narrower and not having the album’s song titles at the bottom. The front cover also contains the original Columbia Records Day-Glo “Deluxe (2) Two Record Set” promotional sticker, which is just like the hype sticker affixed underneath the shrink wrap. It’s guaranteed that this very early 1st pressing factory sealed copy contains the 1st print Columbia Records 2-Eye Stereo red labels with the “360 Sound Stereo 360 Sound” banner along the bottom rim as well as the “C2S 841 (CS 9316 / CS 9317) catalog number on the left from the spindle hole.
★
The album is in outstanding vintage Mint condition having the sharp corners and rigid thick spine. The fully intact shrink wrap doesn’t have any splits, tears or missing pieces containing two original breathe holes on the front cover.
