Description

Ever fancied owning a genuine Dylan 1st press from 1963? Many copies are offered up on E-bay as '1st press' - and are actually from a year or two later! If you're interested in a genuine '63 copy do read on...
A 1st press of Freewheelin' on the UK CBS label pressed by Phillips in 1963. Matrix 1/1. Please note deadwax details are consistent with the early Philips pressings [V 420] etc.. Please note in '63 CBS did not have their own pressing plant in the UK and these early Philips copies are the defacto genuine 1st press. Please note also that the labels are consistent with the early Philips design...mentioning '1L/2L' and 'Recording First Published'. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in a genuine 1st issue cover.
Vinyl [S1 Vg/Vg-] & [S2 Vg+/Vg-] Sorry for the over elaborate grading, but I'm just trying to get this as accurate as humanly possible! Under close inspection the vinyl exhibits a few light marks either side, some are longish trails, but nothing heavy or nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end pans out like this... Side 1 - Mostly Vg with deviation in track 1. Side 2 - Mostly Vg+ with deviation in track 1. Ok, so the main thing to be aware of is that both track 1's are not good players. Both have obviously seen significant use and there is audio issue in both - noticeably. We're talking a good bit of crackle, and a few pops, and the odd burst of distortion..In BITW - there's a non-repeating skip in the final 20 secs. But if you can live with these issues the rest of the album soon improves and plays between Vg/Vg+. In fact much of side 2 plays very nice indeed with little to complain at. Anyway - weight it up in the round. Do you fancy owning a true 1st press of this iconic album?.Dylan was 21 when he wrote this LP..which is crazy!
Cover (Vg-) Again, do bear in mind that this is actually a true 1st issue...not a make-it-up-as-you-go-along kind of listing! Lovely clean front exhibiting nothing more than a couple of thumbnail creases and some light ageing. The rear is showing a good deal of ageing/dirt. Edge wear is pretty light considering the age of the LP. The spine is pretty much entirely intact. And the rigidity in the cover is nothing short of astonishing.
