C.A.QUINTET "A Trip Thru Hell" (U.S.Candy Floss)S8-9356 1968 Original..
The psych lp that started all the craze in underground psychedelic music. Still hideously rare though now known, C.A.QUINTET's face is high on Mount Psychmore. Plays ok, with no skips, but there is some surface noise (which evidently is common on this release), and one "pop" during the drum solo on "Underground Music".The vinyl is VG with humerous lite scratches. The jacket has rather heavy wear, and writing on it, but no splits besides a 3/4" at the lower right (opening) corner. Also VG The labels are in the conditions shown in the images. What I think is the original inner sleeve is included. So, overall not a top copy, BUT it is the monster original.One of the rarest psych albums from the 1960's is this one right here. C.A. Quintet's awesome debut album from the year 1968 is almost impossible to find as the original first pressing since there were only about 500 copies sold back then. That's pretty strange since the material inside those awesome album covers is really classy psychedelia. The opener "Trip Thru Hell (Part I)" kicks you straight to the head. What a wonderful long piece of acid rock. "Colorado Mourning" is one of my favourites in here even if it's too short. The A-side ends with the great "Cold Spider". The first side of the album is very solid and definitely worth of five stars. Second side opens up with two amazing tracks "Underground Music" and the shorter "Sleepy Hollow Lane". Both are really impressive. "Smooth as Silk" might be the weakest part in this album if I had to choose one. The album ends with the second part of the title track but it's not as magnificent as the longer Part I. The first side is stronger in this album even if the second side has great songs to offer too. Is there going to be any better copies turn up?
