CAT STEVENS - TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN
1st UK pressing on the PINK ISLAND Label ILPS-9135
earliest possible stamper matrixes A-3U and B-3U
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some general remarks: The last Island release on the solid Pink Label. When ILPS-9135 was released, Island changed their design to the Pink Rim/Palm Tree labels. Only the very first releases of ILPS-9135 came into the shops with the solid Pink Label, the vast majority have the Pink Rim labels. This circumstance makes it rare. ILPS-9135 has always been a favorite of mine because of its perfect sound. It is a long resident on the List of Super Discs by "The Absolute Sound" Editor Harry Pearson.
I grade my records on top notch equipment, using the expensive Lyra Kleos MC-cartridge. It reveals everything from any Vinyl which sometimes can be a curse, especially with 40+ year old records. When I grade a record as Excellent, I am pretty sure many other sellers would not hestitate to call it Near Mint. When I give a record the "Near Mint" grading it is practically flawless. I am collecting Vinyl since 35+ years and own hundreds of records from the day they came into the shops. I clean all records on my Keith Monks RCM II and add the Nagaoka N102 protective sleeve to each record.
The Vinyl: EXCELLENT
The surface is clean and shiny. Playback is loud and strong. The odd minor static in the very quiestest parts. The Vinyl sits flat on the turntable. I downgraded it due to a tiny surface scratch running parallel to the grooves on Track 4, Side 2 which gives 9 short clicks.
The Labels: NEAR MINT
A few wispy spindle traces only. Fantastic.
The laminated Sleeve: EXCELLENT-
This is the original first Sleeve made of 2 pieces. It is fully laminated on the outside and textured on the inside. It is very clean with no splits or tears. I downgraded it only due to some small laminate bubbles and a minor crease on the lower left hand side, there is barely any edge-rubbing and the spine is strong and clearly readable.
Plain White Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT+
Clean, no seam-splits, just a bit of ring-wear.
If you ever intended to own a TRUE FIRST PRESSING of this fantastic sounding LP in EXCELLENT condition don't let this one pass by.
In case of any further questions please don't hesitate to mail me. I will answer promptly.
Due to the somehow weird eBay policies regarding postage please ignore the postage fee listed above. I decided to fix shipping at 7 GBP to anywhere in Europe and 9 GBP to the rest of the world. This includes the fees for "signed for/registered" and also Insurance to make sure the record arrives safely. It also allows to track it during its transit. The record ships from Germany.
Payment is required within 3 working days after auction ended.
I pack my records professionally in stiff record mailers leaving the Vinyl (housed in Nagaoka anti-static bags) outside the Sleeve.
Good luck.
