Charles Mingus - The Black Saint & The Sinner Lady

(Impulse Records AS-35 USA Stereo LP 1963)

 

This is an original 1960's USA Stereo LP pressing in very nice overall condition! This pressing is from 1968. This is when ABC/ Paramount took over the distribution of "Impulse Records". It has a heavyweight front laminated gatefold sleeve. This has the "Printed in USA. A Product Of ABC-Paramount Records, INC." text printed on the rear sleeve. The inner gatefold has the "ABC-Paramount Records, INC., 1501 Broadway, N.Y. 36" text. It comes with its original generic "Impulse" company paper inner sleeve. This advertises other Impulse L{'s available at the time.

The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has black "Impulse" labels which have a red rim. The labels are grooved also. The labels have the "ABC" logo on them. The labels have the "A Product Of ABC Records, INC., New York, N.Y. 10019. Made In USA" text printed on them. The record has AS-35 A and AS-35 B matrix numbers. These are machine etched in the dead wax. "RVG" and "STEREO" are machine stamped in the dead wax on both sides.

This is a genuine late 1960's USA Stereo pressing of this classic 1963 Modern Jazz LP. Gatefold Sleeve: There is light, mild or very mild rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is some light, mild or very mild rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on some areas. This is mainly on the rear sleeve opening edge. There is some light or very mild fading, to a varying degree, on the inner gatefold. There is mild fading to the red area of the spine. Otherwise, the spine is in great condition & shows next to no wear. The spine text is completely legible (see photos). There is some light, very mild or very minor ringwear on some areas. This is mainly on the rear sleeve. There are no seam splits anywhere on the sleeve. Overall, Very Good++ condition.

Vinyl: There is a very tiny 0.7 cm hairline surface mark on Side 2. There is a very mild fingertip sized surface rub mark on Side 2. This is not too noticeable under a strong light. There is an extremely light 3.5 cm hairline paper sleeve rub mark at the start of Side 1. This is extremely feint & is hardly visible under a strong light. Otherwise, there are some light, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. The original paper inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, very mild or very minor dull surface marks on some areas. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light.  Overall,Very Good++ condition. The labels are in Excellent+ condition and show minimal spindle wear only.

The Impulse company paper inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.

I have play tested this LP in its entirety. Side 1 plays Near Excellent to Excellent overall, & Excellent+ in some places. There is some light, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. There are no clicks or pops on Side 1. Side 2 plays Very Good+ to Near Excellent overall & Excellent in some places. There are a very few intermittent clicks on one track on Side 2. These are very much in the background & do not last long. Otherwise, there is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. Overall, a very decent audio copy!

I shall place the vinyl into a separate plain paper inner sleeve. This will protect the original Impulse inner sleeve from any damage during the shipping process.

    >>  Grading Information  All grading is very strict & adheres to 'Record Collector' specifications. However, I have fine tuned them & they are explained below. All vinyl is examined closely under a strong light & play tested.

MINT Condition = A perfect copy! Almost impossible to find like this. 

NEAR MINT Condition = Very nearly mint just slightly under, There may be a very few, very light paper surface sleeve rubs that can hardly be seen under strong light. This disc has been played a couple of times at most. The sleeve is virtually perfect - there is very minimal wear only.

EXCELLENT Condition = A clean & tidy copy that shows minimal defects. There will be light, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs. There will be no scratches. The cover will be very nice & clean with maybe minimal creasing, ringwear or edge rubbing wear etc...

NEAR EXCELLENT Condition = You can tell this record has been played a few times, but it has been well cared for. There will be minor surface marks only. The sleeve may have light, mild or very mild creasing,ringwear & very mild rubbing wear to the edges etc.... Overall, it will be a very serviceable copy that you will be pleased with.

Very Good Condition = A well played but very decent overall copy. There will be a few marks on the vinyl, but they won't be nasty scratches, just relatively light needle scuffs and sleeve removal marks, they will be noticeable but won't detract from play too much. Cover will show signs of storage/ ageing, e.g., creasing, slight folding, spinewear, ringwear or sticker tears etc... The record will not be trashed!!

Please note that I also use "+" or "-" symbols for this grading. A plus symbol is obviously at the top end of "Very Good" & is really not far from being in "near excellent" condition. The minus symbol obviously means it is at the lower end. This will mean that it is near to being in "Good+" condition.

Double LPs are classed as two LPs. Also gatefold sleeves, posters, inserts, etc.. can increase postage costs.

Please note that there are VAT import charges from the UK into all EU countries. Anything under 150 Euros will need an IOSS number. VAT is paid at point of sale. For any items over 150 Euros in value. There will be a customs charge too. These vary, I believe, from country to country. Please check your relevant postal service online for details. Please note that these charges are beyond my control and are the law for outside parcels going into the EU.

All records will be sent in high quality vinyl box/ mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7" Single. I use a cruciform box for larger orders (3-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.

I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).

I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...
