Description
Hello and welcome to one of my auctions! I am a record collector for over 15 years now and I think it’s about time to sell a couple records to make some room and pass it on to another collector. This week’s auctions feature my pop and progressive records that are from my own personal collection, so here we go!
On offer, a very rare first U.K. pressing of Colosseum – Valentyne Suite on the SWIRL VERTIGO label, cat. no. VO 1, with “A PHILIPS RECORD PRODUCT” credit on the bottom of the B-side label AND on the inside of the gatefold sleeve.
The record is in EX minus condition, there are a couple non-sounding hairlines and a one or two visible, but non-sounding marks. The labels are in VG+++ condition, there are a some spindle marks and some very slight wear along the spindle hole on the A - side.
The cover is in VG+++ condition, the spine has some wear and is a bit discoloured, but is still fully readable and there is a tiny rubbing spot on the front (just right to the foot of the candle), resulting in some loss of paint. Besides mentioned imperfections there is nothing wrong with the cover; no writing, no rips or tears or other unwanted damage. Unfortunately the original Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve is missing.
Although not in a dream Mint condition, this first pressing of the first SWIRL release is getting very hard to find these days. The first six Vertigo Swirl releases all carry the VO prefix and you can identify a very first pressing by the credit “A Philips Record Product” on the bottom of the B side label. As this album came out late 1969, and the “Philips” credit was removed early 1970, this batch was very small. And the cover has also this “Philips” credit on the inside of the gatefold. I’ve seen (and had) many first pressings of this Colosseum album, but I’ve never seen this credit also on the cover, making this a very interesting and collectable record. So if you are a big fan of Colosseum, a Swirl Vertigo collector or a prog music fan, this is a real must have!
