Hi! You're looking at a SUPERB condition 4 LP deluxe LIMITED EDITION and NUMBERED Box Set (this set is #5831 in a run of 7500 sets) which is RARE, hard to find and OUT OF PRINT and the FIRST SET ever issued by the legendary Mosaic Records label featuring the earliest recordings as a leader by THELONIOUS MONK titled "The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Thelonious Monk"---the album includes ALL of the selections recorded by Monk for his first Blue Note albums from 1947 to 1942, some tracks recorded as a co-leader with vibraphonist MILT JACKSON, and two extended tracks recorded in 1957 for the "Sonny Rollins Volume 2" Blue Note Session. The recordings feature MILT JACKSON on vibes, IDREES SULIEMAN and KENNY DORHAM on trumpet, J. J. JOHNSON on trombone, SAHIB SHIHAB, DANNY QUEBEC WEST and LOU DONALDSON on alto saxophone, SONNY ROLLINS on tenor saxophone, HORACE SILVER on piano, GENE RAMEY and AL McKIBBON on bass, ART BLAKEY, MAX ROACH and SHADOW WILSON on drums, and others. The set includes a beautiful 20 page book with extensive liner notes, full discographical information for the sessions, photographs, and a COMPLETE session discography covering Thelonious Monk's entire career. The LP is a Mosaic Records issue released in 1983 with the serial number MR4-101, is a MONO issue as originally released and was made in the United States.
This beautiful 4 LP Mosaic Records Box Set is in SUPERB condition and records one, three and four are in NEAR MINT condition with just a few light paper scuffs that should not significantly affect play, and in NEAR MINT- (Ex) condition on record two with a couple of tiny moderate scuffs and a few light scuffs which should still not significantly affect play and NO other significant imperfections (record three has the title "Criss Cross" written in silver in the runout groove which does not affect play); the ORIGINAL BOOKLET is included and in NM condition with a couple of very slight creases on the edges and NO other significant flaws, and the Cardboard Box is in NEAR MINT- condition with a partial tear on the attaching edge of the two box surfaces (which ARE still attached), a slight center split on the left center edge of the bottom box, a small center split on the upper edge of the front box surface, very light dings on the lower upper left and lower right tips but no other significant imperfections--it's NOT a cutout! The four deluxe static-resistant inner sleeves are also included and in excellent condition.
Vinyl Grading Standards (unless otherwise indicated, LPs are visually graded)
Mint (or M) – Sealed and effectively perfect with no signs of wear or ever having been played.
Near Mint -- A record with only the slightest evidence of ever having been handled.
Very Good Plus Plus (VG++) A very clean record that has no marks aside from slight scuffs and abrasions caused by removal from a paper inner sleeve or perhaps a few marks on the label caused by a turntable spindle.
Very Good Plus (VG+) A record that has had a number of plays and may have some superficial scuffs, possibly mild to moderate spindle marks and / or possibly hairline scratches on the vinyl, which may produce some intermittent pops and possibly very light background noise.
Very Good (VG) A record that has generally been well cared for, but has seen a fair amount of play, with some scuffing. hairline scratches, spindle marks and / or light scratches. Should play through well, with the possibility of more pops and more background noise.
Very Good Minus (VG-) A record with significant scuffs, scratches, and spindle marks that should play through with moderate pops and surface noise, possibly of some duration.
Good (G) A record with will play through, but with significant pops, substantial background noise, and possibly intermittent skipping.
Poor (P) A record with MAJOR issues that will interfere with play, and will possibly be unplayable in part due to damage (I'll only offer an LP in this condition if it's an extreme rarity and / or for cover art display purposes).
A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this vinyl LP!
