Description

If you are viewing these, the chances are you already know what you are looking at, here.

This is a hugely sought-after set of the entire output of the legendary Commodore label plus many unissued tracks recorded by them. 2,500 sets were sold as a limited edition in the mid 1980's. (1986 comes up most often on the net as the issue date). If  online information is correct, the original price for these was $250 per volume (around 20 discs each volume) or $750 for the complete set offered here. Around $12 per record sounds a plausible price for the era, especially for a specialist issue like this.

The 66 LP's are individually paper-sleeved and then shared (unequally between volumes) between two separate hard card boxes which in turn slot into an outer hard card 'shell box'. That means three volumes, each with two boxes, with an average of 11 LP's per box. The final volume, (3), has the fewest records, but also contains a 64-page booklet with notes for the whole set,  credits, a company and artists' history by Dan Morgenstern and an interview with Milt Gabler.

The records all appear to be in mint condition and may be unplayed. The inner boxes are all perfect. The outer boxes show some small sign of handling with occasional edge scuffs, but the overall external condition merits 9/10.

Please note that the Ebay system makes it impossible to show true sending costs in the record section, allowing a maximum of £4 to be shown (one record) Based on a true weight of 13.5kgs, packed, a courier service will deliver within the UK for £10,  to Europe for £25 and to the USA for £75. To Australia and Japan it is likely to approach £100, but please ask me for an exact cost to your destination if in doubt.

As a 'taster', here is the track listing for Volume One alone. You will find the other two Volumes' tracks on the net. These are organized chronologically releasing the complete sessions held by Commodore from January 1938 to December 1943 - except for the first five tracks on Record 1 that were recorded: 1929 (1-A1), 1931 (1-A2,1-A3) and 1935 (1-A4,1-A5)
