Camel 1st LP UK Camel First Pressing MCA MUPS 473
1st Pressing of their 1973 debut album, simply entitled Camel. UK pressing MCA MUPS 473. Importantly this is with the blue / black record labels, rather than any later second pressing on purely black labels (MUPS 473) or any later catalogue numbers such as MCF 2665 or MCL1601
The matrix no’s are:
Side 1: 7-LNMG-275-2L 1 C (Matrix stamper no.3)
Side 2: 7-LNMG-276-1L 1 U (Matrix stamper no.2)
Hardly ever comes up for sales in the form of this very first blue/ black label original pressing. Very low mother stampers of C and U in the Decca BUCKINGHAM sequence.
Condition: As my grading below suggests this record is in nice condition throughout with no major defects just some minor points to note.
Detailed grading:
Outer Sleeve: Overall the sleeve is in EX- condition, being very close to excellent condition. It is a very clean example with no staining, writing or other marks. There are a few moderate creases, mainly on the front cover which prevent a higher grading. They are only really visible when the sleeve is held up to light, and they don’t significantly detract from what is basically a nice example of this sleeve.
Record: Overall the record is in EX condition. The record still retains much of its original deep gloss, these MCA pressings in my opinion were some of the highest quality records ever made, being very solid and having a general feeling of quality. On this example there are some very faint hairline marks across both sides, none of which are at all heavy or deep, and only visible when held to the strongest halogen light. Overall a really nice example of this LP.
Playback is stunning. I played this LP carefully on my Project desk with Ortofon cartridge and the results were stunning. It plays strong EX+ with no nasty crackles or clicks at all, just the very occasional light surface tick. The quality of the recording and instruments shines through. Wonderful
Labels. Near Mint – nice and clean.
The record also comes with its original poly-lined inner sleeve, which is in EX condition
Overall - I grade fairly but conservatively. This is a really nice original example of this amazingly rare 1st press of this LP. It’s not a perfect copy but, these would command £250+ so it is priced accordingly.
