Description
Yardbird Suite and Moose the Mooche
Original 78 Signed by Charlie Parker
Dial 1003, original record of Yardbird Suite (A side) and Moose the Mooche (B side), both from the legendary March 28, 1946 session of the Charlie Parker Septet that included Bird on alto sax, Lucky Thompson on tenor sax, Miles Davis on trumpet, Dodo Marmarosa on piano, Vic McMillan on bass, Roy Porter on drums, and Arvin Garrison on guitar. In his autobiography, Miles devotes several pages to this session, which was Parker's first for Dial Records and Ross Russell, for whom Miles has rather harsh words. According to Davis, Moose the Mooche was Parker's heroin supplier and actually got royalties for this number. The label of "Yardbird Suite" is inscribed and signed by Parker. The inscription is not clearly legible to me, but it looks like it says "Yours Parkerly, Charley," perhaps a play on the spelling of his name that Savoy sometimes used on their labels ("Charley") rather than the usual spelling that he uses here on his signature ("Charlie").
The label on each side is rubber-stamped twice, Apr 30 1949. The record is in very nice condition; it may not have ever been played. There are two small scratches on the A side, at about 7 o'clock, and some patterning on the B side, just past 12 o'clock, that may be an artifact of pressing. I have tried to show these off in the photos.
Parker's is a very desirable autograph, and this is a great record to have it on. Guaranteed genuine; free shipping worldwide. 444 (GS 6.2 (444))
