Description
On offer is an original U.K. 1973 pressing of David Bowie's LP Aladdin Sane, RCA RS 1001. It comes in a gatefold sleeve and a special lyric inner sleeve. It also has the original fan club application/insert.
The record plays and sounds 99% great -- full, clear and punchy. Overall a very clean sound. There is one problem. At the start of side two, in the track "Time," there are a half dozen skips in the first 15 seconds. After that -- it plays great. I can't see any particular mark that would cause the problem. Maybe a factory imperfection.
The record has seen use. There are numerous faint hairlines and surface marks but nothing really that qualifies as a scratch. Maybe one very light scratch. The vinyl still has much of its original gloss and luster. There's some surface noise from time to time, some clicks (several of these in Watch That Man), but nothing dramatic.
Setting aside the skips, the record grades a strong Very Good.
The cover is firm and has no splits or tears. Light wear to a few corners and edges. A few spots of discoloration. On the front is a price sticker from The HMV Shop (His Master's Voice, Britain's biggest music store chain at the time), showing price code I. On the back someone started to sketch in with pencil a few of the features on the blank face. Not a big problem. See photo. Not very noticeable. Cover is Very Good or Very Good Plus.
The inner sleeve shows light wear -- no splits, no creasing, no writing or other marks. The sleeve gives the lyrics from the LP written by Bowie -- but not others. So we don't get the words from Jagger and Richard's Let's Spend the Night Together.
The fan club insert is very good. It has a little discoloration and bit of light creasing but has no writing and is totally intact -- even where it says "cut here." With lots of these lp's the application half was mailed in and thus gone missing from the album.
The matrix numbers in the dead wax are CPRY 4543-3T on both sides. I personally am not familiar with the meaning. But I see that other U.K. sellers of this album say these matrices make it a first pressing.
