Very good vinyl condition of 5 albums from hard rock pioneers Deep Purple.
Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the
“unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies”.
This collection starts with the 1970 LP ‘Deep Purple In Rock’ this is their fourth studio
album and the first one that truly established their future hard rock, proto metal
sound with 7 amazing tracks that include “Child in Time”, “Speed King” and
“Into the Fire” to name a few.
The next album is their 1972 breakthrough smash hit ‘Machine Head’ with 7 iconic
songs like “Smoke on the Water”, “Highway Star”, “Lazy” and “Space Truckin’”.
The third LP was the bands 1973 ‘Who Do We Think We Are’ and the last album with
singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover until ‘Perfect Strangers’ came out in 1984.
This album has 7 classic songs such as “Woman from Tokyo”, “Mary Long” and
“Super Trouper” to name a few.
The fourth LP is the 1974 ‘Burn’, featuring a then-unknown David Coverdale on vocals
and Glenn Hughes from Trapeze on bass and vocals. With 8 killer tracks like “Burn”,
“Lay Down, Stay Down”, “What’s Goin’ On Here” and “Mistreated”.
The fifth selection is their second LP released in 1974 ‘Stormbringer’, and a true lost
gem of an album. With nine songs that include “Holy Man”, “Lady Double Dealer”,
“The Gypsy” and “Soldier of Fortune”. According to Glenn Hughes, the slurred gibberish
that is spoken by David Coverdale at the beginning of the title track just prior to the first
verse is the same backwards dialogue that Linda Blair’s character utters in the film
‘The Exorcist’ when she is questioned by the priest.
