Description
We pack items very carefully (check feedback) and do not accept returns due to shipping damages. If you'd like postal insurance, let us know before finalizing payment, and we'll add it to your invoice. Insurance is not available for USPS First Class International, but is available for USPS Priority Mail International (for most countries).
We use brand-new shipping boxes and packing materials for added shipping protection for records. There is a $2 handling fee for domestic shipping, to cover the cost of packaging.
MULTIPLE-LISTINGS BUYERS: Our boxes fit a maximum of five records or two box sets (or similar combination), so we will invoice you once you reach that limit on our "Awaiting Payment" list, even if you still have bids out.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please be aware we ship by USPS First Class International only, unless your order exceeds four pounds in weight, in which case we have no other option that to ship by USPS Priority Mail International.
DISC PATHE 14" 78 RPM VERTICAL CUT RECORD 86243/44
Italian tenor ARISTODEMO GIORGINI sings two romanze* from the opera TOSCA (Puccini), accompanied by the La Scala Orchestra, recorded by Pathe in Milan, October 14, 1911.
86243: RECONDITA ARMONIA (Recondite [complex] harmony) is the first romanza in the opera. It is sung by the artist Mario Cavaradossi when comparing his love, Tosca, to a portrait of Mary Magdalene that he is painting. You can listen to a later American Pathe release of the matrix here:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHYhgyv_Zs8
86244: E LUCEVAN LE STELLE (And the stars were shining). Now, in this third act romanza, Mario Cavaradossi, the artist in love with the singer Tosca, is awaiting his execution on the roof of Castel Sant'Angelo. There may be a label error here: the label says "lucean" instead of "lucevan."
The record looks near mint except for a couple of micro blisters and small scuff/scratches. I have no way to test this record. It doesn't have a sleeve. I over-exposed the pictures of the sides to show detail.
There is collector's information written on the label (and fairly easy to remove, I've discovered). One may be recording date, which matches one of my discographies, and one is probably the correct rpm setting (86.75).
*Romanze is the plural for romanza.
BECAUSE OF THE EXPENSE OF PACKING THIS EXTRA LARGE RECORD, THERE IS A $4 HANDLING FEE ADDED TO THE SHIPPING FOR DOMESTIC BUYERS.
NOTE: I DONT GRADE LABELS -- see pictures for that information. I use the eBay record grading system when listing 78's, which is mostly based on visual observation of the wax, shellac, or vinyl. KEEP IN MIND THAT ALMOST ALL OLD 78's HAVE SURFACE NOISE WHEN PLAYED ON MODERN EQUIPEMENT (except the extremely well-made records). It's only distracting surface noise, as well as ticks, pops, clicks or jumps, that may affect grading.
ALL THE RECORDS I LIST COME FROM ONE COLLECTION, THAT OF JAMES M. KENNEY OF NEW WINDSOR, MARYLAND. HE WAS ONE OF THE EAST COAST'S LARGEST AUDIO AND ELECTRONICS COLLECTORS.
