Early and extremely RARE Folkways title. Recorded and edited by Harold Courlander. Drum Music, Drums of Haiti. (Voodoo, Cult, Ritual, Festival Danses) FOUR 78 rpm discs in a card stock book like folder with paper sleeves for the records bound in. Contains small booklet with info.
Record 1428A : Vodoun Dance (played on 3 vodoun drums, the manman, moyen, and bebe)
Record 1428B : Ibo Dance (played on 3 drums and ogan iron percussion instrument)
Record 1429A(1) : Salongo Dance (played on 2 drums)
Record 1429A(2) : Juba Dance (2 players, one drum)
Record 1429B(1) : Petro Dance
Record 1429B(2) : Quitta Dance (goatskin drums)
Record 1430A(1) : Congo Payette Dance
Record 1430A(2) : Congo Larose Dance
Record 1430B(1) : Baboule Dance
Record 1430B(2) : Mascaron Dance (played on 2 drums and a basse)
Record 1431A(1) : Ganbos (played on bamboo stamping tubes, known as ganbos)
Record 1431A(2) : Vaccines (vaccines are simple bamboo trumpets, played in batteries of 3 or 4)
Record 1431B : Bumba Dance
CONDITION: COVER is EX (very nice condition for its age, just light wear, only real defect is that someone has taped the front paste-on and spine paste-on with Scotch tape - I suppose so they did not come off over time) / RECORDS are VG+ light marks, mostly bright, overall looks pretty clean, no cracks, no chips.
I DO NOT have a way to play 78's, so these are visually graded.
