Description

An original 1st press of HD on the UK RCA label from 1971. Remember - this is pre-STARDUST. Bowie would go onto find fame in the second half of 1972 as Stardust. But in '71 he was no better than hovering at the bottom of the charts. Which is made all the more strange when you listen to HD - because it is one of the best Lps he ever made. Matrix 3T/3T. Etchings "Bobil/Rasputin" - this is indicative of very earliest pressing. Yes, it has the early Titanic publishing credit - but it's those etchings that identify the very earliest copies. The earliest copies have lovely shiny labels and are pressed really heavy [so, more than one reason to go for them]. The vinyl comes housed in an original 1st issue cover. Just bear in mind that very earliest covers went out front laminated. But they dropped the lamination very quickly and most 1st issues will be found looking just like this copy. Top right on the rear there's no 'mainman logo' - these are later copies. We also have an original generic white inner and the light brown lyric sheet. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) A lovely looking copy which has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just one minor deviation. A beautiful player throughout - and why would you want to compromise on this title? Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. You won't find many copies playing at this level - it is impressively clean. The usual problem areas are 'Eight Line Poem' and 'Bewley Brothers'... these are incredibly difficult to find playing clean. All I can make out are few isolated low-level crackles in ELP. Even this tracks plays much much better that what typically surfaces. Absolutely nothing remotely invasive - about as low in the mix as you can go without being inaudible [not distracting at all]. Predominantly a beautiful player with very little to take issue with at all. The intro to Quicksand - plays lovely and clean. Just beautiful clean audio and fantastic music from Bowie. Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex-) And even when you do find a great sounding LP - the cover on this title is often a wee bit disappointing. But this example is in very rude health - looking much better than what you often find. A lovely clean and flat front with just lightest handling  evidence in those black sectors. The rear is even better and totally free from that annoying foxing. Edge wear is mostly pretty minor for this title - just a touch on the bottom edge. The openings are still firm and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Aged, but no splits.
Insert (Ex) Only very lightest evidence of ageing. Superb.
