Here we have one the rarest opera boxsets of all time!!
The 22 LP boxed set of the complete edition of Richard Wagner's four part opera, Der Ring des Nibelungen, also known as The Ring Cycle featuring the four operas Das Rheingold,Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung. There is also a unique three record introduction to The Ring set narrated by Deryck Cooke featuring excerpts from the four operas.
The performance is THE classic version by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georg Solti, a powerful orchestral drama, phenomenal performance and superb sound
The whole ensemble is enclosed in a very weighty carved wooden box with gilded front panel with each opera is in its own separate wooden ended partition with full size libretto booklets containing synopsis & full transcription for the operas. The performance is the classic version by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georg Solti.
The Decca pressed boxset was an expensive purchase in 1970 so only very limited amounts were pressed, less than 200 by all accounts, so the its existence today is an extreme rarity, but what makes this so rare is that it is unplayed mint condition!!
This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity!!
Outer Box
The beautiful case is fully wooden with a dark rexine covering and is in splendid condition showing next to no signs of its age!! The gold gilded front looks sublime with no rips of sign of age. There are only very minor marks to one side but nothing that detracts from the beauty of the box. The box is really sturdy and made to the highest standard, and this is made most evident with the 5 separate wooden partitions which slide in and out with ease. There is some rubbing to one partition opening, and some minor wear to the others, and that is the only sign of it not being brand new. Superb!! Excellent
Labels
Of the 5 differing partitions, each has a different colour for the four parts of the opera and also an introduction to “The Ring”. The labels on each LP correspond to that particular part! It really is a splendid presentation! The labels are as new without a single sign of play!! There are no spindle marks, writing, rips at all. Simply Perfect!! Near Mint
Inner Sleeves
The plain white original inner sleeves are all in lovely like new condition with no rips, or tears!! Near Mint
Booklets
The 5 separate booklets are in perfect condition, and look to have never been opened!! Near Mint
Vinyl Visual
The record looks to be in pristine condition. There is no warping whatsoever; it still retains its factory shine and lustre!! They look as if they have just come off the lathe!! Utterly perfect in every way!! Under a strong halogen bulb, not even a hairline can be seen. I would say these have either never been played, or if so, maybe just once!!! Unbelievable!! Near Mint

. The records played through sublimely! There were no skips or jumps at all. There was no distortion at all. It’s a nice clear and punchy from start to finish. Not a click or a pop, just perfect!! Near Mint
