Description

This is a truly beautiful original 1974 copy of The Eagles' On The Border LP on Asylum 7E-1004. Side one has a blank black label, and side two has the usual Asylum label. I got this record from t estate of an old sound mastering tech, who had lots of test pressings of all sorts of records from this time, so perhaps this was some sort of test pressing. Or perhaps just a mistake. I have never seen or heard of another. In any case it is the first Santa Maria Sterling pressing, with the following matrix:

  • 7E 1004 A - 5 CSM STERLING LH 2G
  • 7E 1004 B - 4 CSM STERLING LH D 2 "̶H̶e̶ ̶W̶h̶o̶ ̶H̶e̶s̶i̶t̶a̶t̶e̶s̶ ̶I̶s̶ ̶L̶u̶n̶c̶h̶"̶ 2


The disc is almost perfect mint and plays flawlessly and truly beautifully. The textured cover is also nearly perfect, with barely the slightest of the usual stains or ringwear this texturing invites.  There is a very light edge and corner ding at the lower right, but it is quite minor. This is a simply beautiful copy. And a rare misprint variant.
